    摘要: A flexible evacuated insulating panel comprises a first flexible external sheet (10) opposing a second flexible external sheet (20), each sheet comprises a plurality of corrugated gas impermeable layers (11) and (21) joined with a gas tight seal (18) to form an internal space that is evacuated of air (19). Spacers (12 and 22) press against a membrane (28) to resist the facewise compressive forces. The evacuated insulating panel is flexible, both in use and in application. As such, the panel may be manually applied to curved surfaces for any high-performance insulator application. The flexible evacuated insulating panel is mass-producible and useful in many different applications without custom design or manufacturing.

The inner multilayer mat 4 arranged directly on the container wall 2 is filled with a gas, which cannot condense during operation and whose pressure can be adjusted to the actual ambient pressure. The outer multilayer mat 5 is filled with the ambient gas, generally air or nitrogen, and the pressure is adjusted to the ambient pressure. The multilayer mats 4 and 5 may be further subdivided by reflecting films 7 that are permeable to gas.

An arrangement for manufacturing the wall portions includes a first unit provided with a cutting tool rotatable about a flexible web for cutting a block of heat insulating synthetic foam material over a contour embracing a section of a container surface to be insulated so as to form a curved blank, and a second unit including two pairs of band saws for finally cutting the curved blank coated with a baffle layer along joining surfaces so as to produce a wall portion with final dimensions.

    摘要: A flexible, e.g. polyurethane, open cell foam sheet is impregnated with a controlled amount of a liquid polymerizable resin system which cures at ambient temperature, and the resin impregnated sheet is immediately chilled at a suitably reduced temperature, e.g. 40.degree. F. or below, to arrest polymerization or hardening. The resulting resin impregnated sheet is stored at such reduced temperature. When needed for adhesive bonding the chilled resin impregnated sheet, cut to the desired pattern or size, is applied between the surfaces of objects to be bonded, e.g. fiber reinforced polyurethane insulation blocks and plywood strips, or such insulation blocks and the steel hull of a liquid natural gas (LNG) container or marine tanker. With or without the application of bonding pressure, as the temperature of the resin impregnated sheet rises to ambient temperature, curing of the resin in the sheet to the solid state takes place, and bonding of the adjacent surfaces of the objects occurs, substantially without extrusion of any excess resin from the sheet, the open cell foam sheet containing the cured resin forming an integral part of the resulting bondline.

    摘要: Composite panels each having a casing and insulating material in the casing are mounted in a covering layer over the inside of a supporting structure by mechanical fastening means. Joint cover members including insulating material and outer facing material are disposed in the spaces between casings of adjacent composite panels. The outer facing material is sealed to front panel portions of the casings to form a primary barrier for cryogenic liquids therewith. An additional secondary barrier may be provided by using composite panels with interior panels in the casings sealed to inner sides thereof and dividing the casings into front and rear compartments, each having insulation therein, and using front and rear joint cover members, the outer facing material of the rear joint cover members being sealed to outer sides of the casings of adjacent composite panels to form a secondary barrier with the interior panels of the composite panels.
