Abstract: A feature avoidance system for a vehicle including at least one ultrasonic sensor disposed on a vehicle and communicatively coupled to a vehicle controller. A dynamic vehicle model is stored in the controller. The dynamic vehicle model is a computer model of current and expected dynamic vehicle component positioning. An analysis module configured cause at least one of the controller and a remote processing system to identify a feature at least partially via data from the at least one ultrasonic sensor, compare a predicted feature position and an estimated vehicle component position, and generate an output in response to the predicted feature position and the estimated vehicle component position intersecting.

Abstract: Systems and methods for processing geographical zones are provided. The method involves operating at least one processor to: define a bounding box surrounding a geographical zone; iteratively partition the bounding box into a plurality of bounding boxes by, starting with the bounding box in the first iteration: determine whether the bounding box contains more than a predetermined maximum number of vertices; divide the bounding box into two additional bounding boxes if the bounding box contains more than the predetermined maximum number of vertices, repeat the steps of determining and dividing the bounding box for the additional bounding boxes in the next iteration until each additional bounding box does not contain more than the predetermined maximum number of vertices; generate a binary tree data structure representing the geographical zone; search the binary tree data structure to determine whether a vehicle is located within one of the bounding boxes.

Abstract: A system is provided that may include a first communication controller that may communicate with a vehicle system formed from two or more vehicles. The first communication controller may operate in different modes, including a first mode to control movement of the vehicle system without repeating any control signals communicated between the vehicles, and in a second mode to monitor different frequencies for receipt of the control signals, receive and repeat a first control signal of the control signals at a first frequency, and receive and repeats a second control signal of the control signals at a second frequency. The first communication controller may also operate in a third mode in which the first communication controller may monitor the first frequency but not the second frequency for the first control signal, receives the first control signal at the first frequency, and repeats the first control signal at the first frequency.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for objectively assessing the driving performance of rideshare drivers and/or vehicles. The techniques include collecting data from various sources to aggregate trip data for several drivers and passengers over several ridesharing trips. This data may include telematics data collected from several passengers and/or drivers during each of their respective ridesharing trips, which indicates various aspects associated with operation of the vehicle. Each driver may then be correlated to his own set of trip data, such that a driving assessment may be made for each individual driver. When a new user subsequently requests a ride via a ridesharing provider, this driver assessment may be made available to the user, thereby providing the user with an objective assessment of the driver prior to the start of the scheduled ride.

Abstract: The disclosure provides for a method for determining a pullover spot for a vehicle. The method includes using a computing device to detect information related to a system of the vehicle or an environment surrounding the vehicle using a sensor of a vehicle and determine a local failure of the vehicle based on the information. The computing device may then be used to determine that the vehicle should pullover before completing a current trip related to transporting a passenger or good by comparing vehicle requirements for the trip with the local failure and determine a pullover spot by identifying a first area for the vehicle to park in part based on a second area being available for a second vehicle to pick up the passenger or good. The computing device may operate the vehicle to the pullover spot and transmit a request for a second vehicle.
