    Abstract: The technology relates to fine maneuver control of large autonomous vehicles that employ multiple sets of independently actuated wheels. The control is able to optimize the turning radius, effectively negotiate curves, turns, and clear static objects of varying heights. Each wheel or wheel set is configured to adjust individually via control of an on-board computer system. Received sensor data and a physical model of the vehicle can be used for route planning and selecting maneuver operations in accordance with the additional degrees of freedom provided by the independently actuated wheels. This can include making turns, moving into or out of parking spaces, driving along narrow or congested roads, construction zones, loading docks, etc. A given maneuver may include maintaining a minimum threshold distance from a neighboring vehicle or other object.

    Abstract: An object detection method and apparatus for a vehicle in a confined space are provided. An object detection method for a vehicle traveling in a confined space, includes determining a first beam pattern and a second beam pattern based on geometric information of the confined space, detecting first candidate objects based on a first transmission signal emitted to form the first beam pattern using at least one antenna, detecting second candidate objects based on a second transmission signal emitted to form the second beam pattern using the at least one antenna, detecting at least one clutter object based on the first candidate objects and the second candidate objects, and detecting a target object based on the at least one clutter object.

    Abstract: Aspects of the technology relate to assisting a passenger in an autonomous vehicle without a driver. For instance, after a door of the vehicle is opened, a predetermined period of time may be waited by processors of computing devices of the vehicle. After waiting the predetermined period of time and when the vehicle's door remains open, a set of instructions for closing the vehicle's door may be played by the processors through a speaker of the vehicle. Once the door of the vehicle is closed, an announcement may be played by the processors through the speaker requesting that the passenger press a first button to initiate a ride to a destination. In response to the first button being pressed, the ride to the destination may be initiated by the processors by maneuvering the vehicle autonomously to the destination.

    Abstract: A system for unmanned driving of a vehicle includes an autonomous driving kit with a detachable terminal having a modularized autonomous driving sensor and configured to support the autonomous driving function of the vehicle. The autonomous driving kit is configured to grasp a vehicle system including various controllers and various sensors applied to the vehicle through a vehicle communication unit of the vehicle and to control autonomous driving adapted to multiple vehicle types and options for each vehicle through cooperative control of the vehicle system and the autonomous driving sensor. A control server is configured to recognize the vehicle to which the autonomous driving kit is attached, provide a moving route of the vehicle, collect a moving state and surrounding conditions of the vehicle based on image information of cameras and transmit the information to the autonomous driving kit.
