Three dimensional GPS or vehicle position data is used to determine a slope the vehicle is traveling over at a specific point in time. The slope data can then be combined with other metrics to provide an accurate, slope corrected vehicle mass. The vehicle mass can then be used along with other vehicle data to determine an amount of work performed by a vehicle, enabling s detailed efficiency analysis of the vehicle to be performed. To calculate slope, horizontal ground speed (VHGS) can be calculated using the Pythagorean Theorem. One can take the Z/Up magnitude and divide it by the horizontal ground speed. Replacing Z, x and y with directional vectors enables one to calculate slope. The slope data is then used to determine the mass of the vehicle at that time. Pervious techniques to calculate mass did not factor in slope, and thus are not accurate.

A chlorinator is also included, capable of receiving a flow of ionized water, and a flow of chlorine, and allowing the flow of chlorine to mix with the flow of ionized water so as to provide a chlorinated flow of ionized water to the manifold loop to return as sanitized water to the body of water.
In a desalination system, water is treated, for example by reverse osmosis, to produce desalinated product water and a reject stream. Salt from the reject stream is transferred to a flow of low salinity wastewater, such as effluent from a municipal wastewater treatment plant. For example, the reject stream may be fed to the high salinity cell in an electrodialysis (ED) unit. The adjacent low salinity cell receives the low salinity wastewater. The high salinity and low salinity cells are separated by ion exchange membranes. The salty wastewater is discharged, for example to the ocean. The salt-reduced reject stream is treated to extract more product water from it, for example by recycling it to the feed water. Less feed water is needed to produce a given volume of product water. If a thermal desalination unit is combined with divalent ion selective ion exchange membranes, then scaling is reduced.
A ballast water treatment apparatus includes a discharge path for discharging ballast water from a ballast tank that stores the ballast water, an ultraviolet irradiation device that includes an ultraviolet lamp and that irradiates the ballast water passing through the discharge path with ultraviolet light, a circulation path formed so that the ballast water circulates therethrough and is irradiated with ultraviolet light emitted from the ultraviolet lamp, a switching portion for switching a path through which the ballast water flows between the circulation path and the discharge path, and a control device that controls the switching portion so that the ballast water flows through the circulation path during a switching-on process of the ultraviolet lamp and controls the switching portion so that the ballast water flows through the discharge path when the switching on of the ultraviolet lamp is completed.
An adsorbent composition for removing heavy metals from contaminated water is described. The composition comprises of a mixture of kaolin clay, cellulose powder, silica powder, magnesite powder, bentonite powder and water. The adsorbent is mixed with contaminated water and allowed to react. Once the reaction is finished a reduced contaminant containing water is gathered and reused.
The present invention provides a process for producing a concentrated aqueous nano titania sol in the mild pH range (4.0 to 10.0) comprising contacting an acidic nano titania sol with a dispersant and with an alkalizing agent, and subjecting the nano titania sol to membrane filtration until the nano titania sol contains more than 300 g TiO2 nanoparticles/dm3. The nano titania sol may further be subjected to a coating treatment within any of the steps of the above described process. The concentrated aqueous nano titania sol of this disclosure is suitable for use in a variety of applications, including providing UV protection and photochemically degrading or inactivating contaminants.
There are provided methods for preparing lithium carbonate. For example, such methods can comprise reacting an aqueous composition comprising lithium hydroxide with CO2 by sparging the CO2 the said composition, thereby obtaining a precipitate comprising the lithium carbonate. The methods can also comprise inserting at least a portion of the precipitate into a clarifier and obtaining a supernatant comprising lithium bicarbonate and a solid comprising the lithium carbonate, separating the solid from the supernatant; and heating the supernatant at a desired temperature so as to at least partially convert the lithium bicarbonate into lithium carbonate.
A high-purity silicon carbide powder and its production method enable mass production of the high-purity silicon carbide powder at low cost in a safe manner. The content of impurities in the silicon carbide powder is 500 ppm or less. The silicon carbide powder can be obtained by heating a raw material for silicon carbide production in an Acheson furnace using a heat generator. The raw material for silicon carbide production is prepared by mixing a siliceous raw material and a carbonaceous raw material. The raw material for silicon carbide production contains the siliceous raw material and the carbonaceous raw material at a mixture mole ratio (C/SiO2) of 2.5 to 4.0 and has a content of impurities of 120 ppm or less.
A system for capturing and storing carbon dioxide. The CO2 sequestration system may include one or more sub-systems for generating electricity, a heat exchange system which may regulate temperature, and a conversion tank. The conversion tank may contain water with dissolved compounds and a catalyst. Carbon dioxide may be converted into carbonate minerals and drawn off to be used in any of a variety of applications.
A method for manufacturing a MEMS device includes the following operations. An SOI wafer including a device layer, an insulating layer and a handle layer is provided. The device layer is etched to form a recess and an annular protrusion surrounding the recess. A moving part and a spring of the MEMS device are formed on the recess by etching the device layer, the insulating layer and the handle layer. An anchor of the MEMS device is formed at the annular protrusion by etching the device layer, the insulating layer and the handle layer. The moving part and the anchor are connected to each other by the spring. The insulating layer is disposed between a first conductive portion and a second conductive portion of the moving part. The insulating layer is disposed between a first conductive portion and a second conductive portion of the anchor.
An activity and volume sensing beverage container cap system for a beverage container including a cap that couples with the beverage container, a processor, a timer and at least one activity level sensor, such as an inclinometer, coupled with the processor. The activity level sensor detects container orientation. When the container is tilted, the timer measures an amount of time in an orientation. Based on the current and previous orientation and the amount of time the container is in different orientations, the processor determines an amount of time of activity of the user, and a level of activity of the user, such as number of steps or moves per time. The inclinometer is also used to determine the amount of volume dispensed from the container when tilted over a threshold indicative of drinking. Thus one inclinometer may be utilized as both to determine activity level and volume of fluid dispensed.
