Abstract: Process for the synthesis of methanol comprising the steps of: subjecting a biomass to a gasification process in presence of steam and an oxidant; subjecting the so obtained gasifier stream to water gas shift conversion and purification to yield a synthesis gas with hydrogen, carbon monoxide and CO2; mixing said synthesis gas with a second stream of synthesis gas to yield a third stream of synthesis gas; feeding said third stream of synthesis gas to a methanol synthesis loop wherein a crude methanol and a tail gas retaining methane are produced; subjecting said tail gas to a reforming step in presence of an oxidant to generate said second stream of synthesis gas.

Abstract: A system and method for producing acetic acid, including dry reforming methane with carbon dioxide to give syngas, cryogenically separating carbon monoxide from the syngas giving a first stream including primarily carbon monoxide and a second stream including carbon monoxide and hydrogen. The method includes synthesizing methanol from the second stream via hydrogenation of carbon monoxide in the second stream, synthesizing dimethyl ether from the methanol, and generating acetic acid from the dimethyl ether and first-stream carbon monoxide.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for producing methanol in which at least a portion of the obtained liquid raw methanol stream is decompressed to a decompression pressure in a liquid decompression apparatus, wherein the decompression pressure is lower than the synthesis pressure and wherein the liquid decompression apparatus does mechanical work. At least a portion of the mechanical work done by the liquid decompression apparatus is utilized to drive the synthesis gas compression apparatus required for compressing the synthesis gas to synthesis pressure. The utilization may be carried out indirectly, through generation of electrical energy, or directly through direct utilization of the mechanical work.

In an embodiment, the anode and the cathode are separated by the membrane and are both exposed to reducing environments during the entire time of operation.

Abstract: A petroleum residue stream is heated and reacted with an oxygen stream and a carbon dioxide stream in a gasification unit to produce syngas. At least a portion of the carbon monoxide is converted into carbon dioxide to produce shifted syngas. At least a portion of the shifted syngas is separated to produce a syngas feed stream. At least a portion of the syngas feed stream is converted into methanol. At least a portion of the methanol is converted into one or more alkenes (olefins). At least a portion of the methanol is reacted with carbon monoxide to produce acetic acid. Carbon dioxide produced in the process can be recycled to the gasification unit to facilitate the production of the syngas.

Abstract: The disclosure relates to a plant, especially power plant, for reduction of the carbon dioxide content in atmospheric air, especially for improvement of atmospheric air quality. The plant has at least one electrolysis unit for oxygen production, at least one carbonization unit for carbon synthesis, especially a Bosch reaction unit, and at least one unit for cleaning of ambient air from an outside atmosphere surrounding the plant. The carbonization unit synthesizes carbon from carbon dioxide which is obtained from the atmosphere by means of the carbon dioxide sorption unit and this carbon is stored, in order to effectively reduce the proportion of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The disclosure further relates to a method of operating such a plant, with which the carbon dioxide content in the atmosphere can be efficiently reduced.

Abstract: There are provided systems and methods for using fuel-rich partial oxidation to produce an end product from waste gases, such as flare gas. In an embodiment, the system and method use air-breathing piston engines and turbine engines for the fuel-rich partial oxidation of the flare gas to form synthesis gas, and reactors to convert the synthesis gas into the end product. In an embodiment the end product is methanol.

Abstract: A process for producing methanol from an adjusted make-up gas comprising the steps of adjusting the stoichiometric number of the make-up gas fed to the methanol loop with a first stream of hydrogen recovered from a minor portion of makeup gas separated from the main stream, and a second stream of hydrogen recovered from the loop purge; the process further comprises the step of feeding at least a portion of a tail gas rich in methane to a reforming stage for use as a feedstock to produce the make-up gas.
