Abstract:
A Carrier Network includes computer network equipment defining a Cable Network and an Intermediate Network which extend between multiple users and a Service Provider for conveying data therebetween. The Cable Network includes a shared communications medium joining the users with the Intermediate Network. Users compete for network access across the shared communications medium in conveying data. Software that manages the network access of the users includes computer-executable instructions for monitoring bandwidth consumption by each user for a time interval, forecasting bandwidth consumption of each user for a future time interval, prioritizing the users for allocation of bandwidth, allocating bandwidth to each user for determining a bandwidth allowance of such user for the future time interval, and limiting bandwidth consumption of each user during the future time interval to that user's bandwidth allowance.
Abstract:
In a router device of the present invention, the routing controller refers to the routing address table to determine whether the received frame is to be routed (whether the frame passes through two or more router devices, for example). The multiplication controller multiplies the frame selected as the subject of routing and has the path controller set paths between router devices for transmission of the multiplied frames. The frame for which a path is set is transmitted with the destination address of the router device as the other party of communication. When a multiplied frame is received, the multiplication controller extracts an ordinary frame from the multiplied frame and sends it to the device indicated by the original destination address.
Abstract:
This invention relates to methods for controlling and monitoring access to network servers. In particular, the process described in the invention includes client-server sessions over the Internet involving hypertext files. In the hypertext environment, a client views a document transmitted by a content server with a standard program known as the browser. Each hypertext document or page contains links to other hypertext pages which the user may select to traverse. When the user selects a link that is directed to an access-controlled file, the server subjects the request to a secondary server which determines whether the client has an authorization or valid account. Upon such verification, the user is provided with a session identification which allows the user to access to the requested file as well as any other files within the present protection domain.
Abstract:
An intelligent data protection system includes a memory refreshing apparatus and a memory access apparatus connected to the volatile memory array of a computer system for maintaining the integrity of the data contained therein and allowing the main computer system to access data. Control apparatus follows a user programmable power control sequence to selectively provide power to various components and to initiate the transfer of data into a non-volatile memory. Initially, the control apparatus provides power from a reserve power supply to the volatile memory, the memory maintenance apparatus, and the memory access apparatus immediately upon detecting a power failure. If the power is not restored within a predetermined time, the control apparatus removes power from all non-essential components, including the memory access apparatus, to minimize the power consumed by the data protection system while still maintaining the data in the volatile memory. The data protection system also includes data transfer apparatus to transfer data from the volatile memory into a non-volatile memory upon command from the control apparatus.
Abstract:
An automated system that constantly collects data from the tank monitor system, the fuel dispensing system and the point of sale equipment for the purpose of inventory reconciliation through statistical data analysis. The results of this data analysis is then transmitted by telephone means periodically to a central computer for further processing. This system will notify the central computer to indicate that a problem exists when any of the inventories have reached a minimum level or fail to reconcile due to unknown reasons. This system is designed to prevent loss of sales due to insufficient inventory and/or loss of inventory due to miscalibration of fuel dispensers, theft or tank leakage. This invention will interface with any equipment capable of serial communication and can be installed at existing service stations with a minimum amount of disruption to commerce.
Abstract:
A remote power controller module for use in power distribution systems having a number of current limiting channels that are capable of being paralleled to provide current pathways from a power source to a load. In one embodiment, the current limiting channels may contain control and monitoring circuitry for monitoring the trip status of all channels and for disabling all paralleled channels in response to the disablement of one channel. The control and monitoring circuitry may also reset the disabled current limiting channels. In another embodiment toggle switches may be used to reset the disabled current limiting channels. The current limiting channels may contain circuitry for monitoring the load across the channel and for tripping current a limit switch within the channel. In one embodiment, the circuitry may monitor current flow through the current limit switch. In another embodiment, the circuitry may monitor the current flow through the switch as well as the voltage drop across the switch.
Abstract:
An energy management loadpanel arrangement includes a load panel enclosure having a plurality of circuit breakers, each of which opens and closes in response to a control signal so as to interrupt an associated current path. A microcomputer generates the control signals to control the position of the circuit breakers and their associated current paths, and a volatile memory circuit, for example, RAM, stores time-event data which is used to indicate when the control signals should be generated. A charged electronic double-layered capacitor is coupled to the volatile memory so that, in the event of a power outage, operating power is provided to the volatile memory for extended periods of time. In this manner, the time-event data is retained during the power outage so that the circuit breakers are timely controlled, despite the power outage, in response to said control signals. A real time clock circuit is used to track the time, and the charged electronic double-layered capacitor is coupled to the real time clock circuit so that it also continues to operate during a power outage. The microcomputer is then used to periodically store an image of the current time, from the real time clock, in RAM during normal operation, so that after a power outage and when the microcomputer 120 recovers therefrom, the current value of the real time clock can be compared against this value stored in RAM and the microcomputer's duration timers can be corrected.
Abstract:
Process and apparatus for calibrating an electrical device such as a circuit breaker, motor controller or monitor is taught. A precision power supply device is interconnected by way of appropriate input channels to the device to be calibrated for supplying a precise accurate calibration variable as an input. A personal computer is interlinked by way of a communications network with the apparatus to be calibrated and is also interlinked with the precision supply device so that the personal computer has available the exact value of input variable utilized.
Abstract:
A method and system for controlling the temperature of liquid cooled power transformers. The winding temperature of a transformer winding is electronically computed from the actual top oil temperature and the incremental additional temperature resulting from transformer load current. One curve from a family of curves representing the incremental temperature for various transformers may be selected or calibrated by adjustments made which simulate the incremental additional temperature which results from transformer winding current. The total temperature value resulting from the addition of both the top oil temperature and the incremental temperature are used to control indicators, cooling fans, circuit trips and retain an indication of the highest temperature occuring during the time period of interest.
