摘要: An improved clutch drum and input shaft assembly or intermediate shaft for the transfer of torsional force in a vehicle transmission having a fillet or concave groove structure and a hardened steel shaft. The improved clutch drum and input shaft has additional material in the spline portion of the shaft as well as improved fillet and transition surfaces between the spline and the first bearing element as compared to existing transmission shafts. The strength and durability of the improved transmission shaft is also modified with materials and hardening beyond the existing transmission shaft steel and hardening grades. Additional welds to attach a clutch drum to the shaft are employed instead of a single laser electron beam weld.

摘要: A shaft adapted for connection to another shaft in a manner that transfers rotational movement is provided. The shaft bears a spline comprising a plurality of teeth. Each tooth has a profile that enhances surface contact between the shaft and a second shaft, thereby leading to enhanced fit between the shafts. Each tooth includes a top surface and first and second sides. Each of the first and second sides has a straight portion disposed between top and bottom transition regions. In a preferred embodiment, the length of each straight portion is between approximately 0.6 and 0.9 times the overall length of the appropriate side. Also, the pitch diameter of the shaft is preferably between 0.8 and 0.97 times the outer diameter of the shaft. The width of each tooth is preferably between approximately 2 and 5 times the wall thickness of the shaft.

摘要: A bearing assembly for supporting a water-lubricated drive shaft includes a plurality of load-bearing staves made from a composite material known as Slippery Polymer Alloy (SPA and a plurality of rubber staves. The composite staves are spaced circumferentially around the bearing housing on the inner wall. The rubber staves are also spaced circumferentially around the bearing housing, the rubber staves being located between adjoining composite staves and having compression force on their end portions to lock the composite staves in place.

摘要: A vehicular drive shaft assembly is balanced about an axis of rotation. The vehicular drive shaft assembly includes a drive shaft tube having a first end and a second end, with a first tube yoke including a first radially outer wall fixedly mounted to the first end of the drive shaft tube. A first balance pendulum is located radially inward of the first outer wall and rotationally fixable relative to the first tube yoke, and a second balance pendulum is located radially inward of the first outer wall and is also rotationally fixable relative to the first tube yoke. The balance pendulums can be rotated before being locked in place in order to account for imbalances in the drive shaft assembly. A second tube yoke fixedly mounted to the second end of the drive shaft tube may also include balance pendulums, similar to the first, in order to provide additional drive shaft assembly balancing capabilities.

摘要: Venting systems and methods are provided for a splined driveshaft to continually equalize the internal driveshaft pressure with that of the atmosphere, preventing at the same time, external elements, such as, water, dirt, or salt from getting into the driveshaft, thereby causing premature wear or corrosion. One venting system comprises a vent defined in a splined driveshaft for allowing air outside the driveshaft, containing telescopically resident first and second members, to pass into at least one of the first and second members, and a plug mounted over the vent. Another venting system comprises a weld yoke at an end of a splined driveshaft, a vent defined in the weld yoke allowing air outside the splined driveshaft to pass into the driveshaft, and a plug mounted over the vent. A venting method comprises providing a splined driveshaft, forming a vent defined in the splined driveshaft, mounting a plug over the vent, and venting the splined driveshaft through the vent.

摘要: A composite shaft comprising at least two axial segments of dissimilar materials, the segments being held together by a central tie-bar, wherein a segment of material least subject to radial expansion is provided with a coaxial male member extending axially from its end, and the cooperating segment subject to greater radial expansion is provided with a female skirt shrunk onto the male member in the assembly of the shaft and also being provided with an annular upstand, at or towards its peripheral edge and directed towards the cooperating segment, the upstand being held by the compressive force of the tie-bar always in full annular contact with its cooperating segment. The male member is of smallest practicable diameter and the upstand is of largest practicable diameter.

A fiber reinforced plastic layer (5) having a thickness that achieves a flexural rigidity satisfying a required natural bending frequency is formed on an outer circumference of the metal pipe (1) satisfying a static torsional strength required as a propeller shaft. The fiber reinforced plastic layer (5) has an interface strength between the reinforcing fiber and the matrix within a range of 20 to 200 MPa as measured by the microdroplet method.

摘要: A submersible pump assembly having first and second components that are coupled together has a removable externally splined sleeve. A key is located in the keyway between the shaft sleeve and the shaft for transmitting torque. A threaded fastener secures to a threaded hole extending inward from an end face of the shaft end coaxial with an axis of the shaft end. The fastener has a head that engages an outward facing shoulder of the shaft sleeve to releasably secure the shaft sleeve to the shaft. A coupling sleeve has internal splines that engage the external splined section of the shaft sleeve. The coupling sleeve is in engagement with a shaft end assembly of the second component for transmitting torque between the shafts of the first and second components. The head that of the fastener transmits axial loads between the shafts of the first and second components.

摘要: A method is provided for assembling a shaft having a metal matrix composite mid shaft and monolithic high strength alloy forward and aft shafts. The forward and aft shafts are each inertia friction welded to separate annular transition pieces which include a barrier layer operative to prevent the formation of intermetallic compounds. Special tooling is used to avoid applying shear stresses to the transition piece during welding. The welded forward and aft subassemblies are subsequently heat treated before inertia friction welding them to the mid shaft.
