Abstract:
The method and apparatus for reclaiming substantially pure sand from a heat treating furnace; wherein a casting with sand core and/or sand mold, comprising sand bound by a combustible binder, attached thereto is introduced into the heat treating furnace; or, wherein portions of sand core and/or sand mold that are not attached to a casting are introduced into the heat treating furnace. Wherein, the reclaiming within the furnace is carried out, in part, by a fluidizer that promotes binder combustion by one or more process of agitating, heating, and oxygenating. Wherein, the characteristics of the reclaimed sand are selectively controlled by controlling the dwell time of the sand within the heat treating furnace.

Abstract:
A moisture separator reheater (10) tube support where the tubes are resiliently supported on curve-shaped metal spring members (46 or 58-64) in a manner permitting differential thermal radial and axial growth between the tube runs (26) and the support and spacer plate (30). The moisture separator reheater (10) units are used in nuclear pressurized water reactor systems.
Abstract:
A method for manufacturing a railcar coupler knuckle includes, before casting, positioning an external chill within a cope mold portion and a drag mold portion offset from and adjacent internal walls of a pulling face and a throat of the cope and drag mold portions, thus producing a casting with reduced micro-shrinkage in at least the throat, a high-stress section of the casting. Use of subsurface chills produces an improved surface with fewer inclusions when compared to an equivalent surface produced in a process without use of a subsurface chill. The external chill may be a cone chill of a larger size to improve cooling and solidification at and below the surface. The external chill may also be a cylindrical and/or oblong chill with a tapered design that may correspond to the internal walls of the cope and drag mold portions between the pulling face and the throat.
Abstract:
Apparatus comprising a combination tube support for supporting tubes within a shell and tube type heat exchanger and baffle for directing fluid flow within the heat exchanger. A baffle lip is mounted on a baffle body to provide a seal with the interior surface of the heat exchanger shell. A foot having support surfaces of varying heights is used to support the baffle body to prevent the weight of the baffle body and the tubes contained therein as well as other forces from collapsing a portion of the baffle lip.
Abstract:
A foundary molding machine which for the simultaneous separate production of two foundry mold parts possesses two mold units provided with a respective match plate support and a sand filling- and compaction station. Each of the mold units has operatively associated therewith a pivotal device incorporating pivotal arms pivotable about vertical shafts in a respective horizontal plane. The pivotal arms carry mold frames supported in mold frame holders which they pivot from the sand filling- and compaction station, while rotating the mold frame containing the mold lower part through 180.degree. about a horizontal axis, into a position wherein both mold parts are in superimposed position at an attachment or assembly station where both of the mold parts are deposited on top of one another onto a conveyor mechanism. According to the invention, each pivotal device possesses at least three substantially uniformly offset pivotal arms carrying the mold frames in the mold frame holders and all mold frames of both pivotal devices are rotatable about a respective horizontal shaft through an angle of approximately 180.degree. and arranged to be individually vertically displaceable.
