For example, the disclosed methods and systems can determine that a trigger event has occurred relative to the video game based on control inputs from video game controls displayed on the second screen device. The disclosed systems and methods can generate a new control layout that is tailored to the trigger event. The disclosed systems and methods can automatically replace the first control layout with the second control layout on the second screen device without interrupting video game play.
