    摘要: The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition, which is characterized in that the composition comprises an effective amount of proanthocyanidin, the monomer units of the proanthocyanidin have the chemical formula of formula (I), and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or salt; wherein the proanthocyanidin is a polymeric proathocyanidin with a degree of polymerization ranging from 50-65. It has good antioxidant stress and can be used to treat or prevent brain diseases and aging-related diseases caused by excessive production of ROS, or to prevent and treat aging. It can also be used for the treatment and prevention of liver disease, tumor, sarcopenia and other diseases.

    摘要: Phenolic polymers are prepared by dissolving one or more organic phenols along with sodium periodate in aqueous base at pH 8-11, and allowing the mixtures to stand between 35 and 80.degree. C. for a period of 30 minutes to 100 hours. One or more inorganic compounds or salts is added and the solution is allowed to stand at room temperature between 2 and 48 hours. Salt molecules as well as starting compounds and other low molecular-weight materials below about 500 to about 10,000 daltons are removed from the product solutions. Purified phenolic polymers are prepared in concentrated aqueous solution or in dried powder form in a final step if necessary. The resultant phenolic polymers exhibit physicochemical properties strongly resembling those of typical commercially-available natural soil extracts. The materials are active anti-viral and anti-microbial agents, and are effective in anti-viral amounts in blood product compositions, in methods for reducing or eliminating virus in blood products and in anti-viral and anti-microbial compositions for treating or preventing human or animal viral or microbial diseases.

    摘要: A phenolic, cesium-specific, cation exchange resin is prepared by neutralizing resorcinol with potassium hydroxide, condensing/polymerizing the resulting intermediate with formaldehyde, heat-curing the resulting polymer to effect cross-linking and grinding it to desired particle size for use. This resin will selectively and efficiently adsorb cesium ions in the presence of a high concentration of sodium ions with a low carbon to cesium ratio.

    摘要: Biologically active protein compositions comprising protein or a protein substrate bound onto a polyamide of the general formula: ##STR1## in which R and R.sub.1, which may be the same or different, are polyamide residues bound onto the amido group,R.sub.2 is the residue of a compound which can be condensed with formaldehyde and which contains at least one further reactive group,R.sub.3 is the residue of a bi- or poly-functional protein reagent,n is 0 or 1, andP is a biologically active protein;these compositions are obtainable by the reaction of a polyamides with amounts, equimolar to one another, of formaldehyde and of a compound condensable with formaldehyde, in a solvent for polyamides, reacting the product thereby obtained with a bi- or poly-functional protein reagent and coupling the resulting reaction product with the biologically active protein or protein substrate.
