    摘要: Block seals of pile weatherstripping (6), which may be inserted in doorjambs or window sash and are sometimes called dust plugs (15), are provided by hinged segments (16-21) of a continuous length of pile weatherstripping folded against each other. The pile may have an infiltration barrier providing a fin (4) which extends along a continuous serpentine path having loops (8) bridging the hinges (3). The hinged sections are connected by an adhesive-backed sheet (5). The block seals are adapted to be manufactured by a continuous process where the backing or base strip (7) of a continuous length of pile weatherstripping (1) is slit or notched from opposite spaced edges, leaving sufficient material in the backing to provide the hinges (3). The continuous serpentine barrier fin (4) allows the dust plug (15) to be installed oriented either with the ends or sides of the pile facing the moving member of the door or window to be sealed, while maintaining the fin infiltration barrier.

    摘要: Dust plugs provide seals for openings in door frames and window frames to seal against air or water infiltration. The dust plugs are made continuously and automatically by feeding several weatherstrips having piles extending from rigid backing through a tool having side by side slots there through which extend from an anvil surface thereof. The backing strips rest on the surface in edge-to-edge relationship. An adhesive tape having a contact adhesive on one side thereof is fed synchronously with the pile weatherstripping in juxtaposition with the weatherstrips and in contact with the exposed sides of the backing strips. The dust plug material consists of the tape in contact with the weatherstrips and provides an assembly of the weatherstrips and the tape. Counter rotating puller belts engage dust plug material which may then be wound on a reel. For installation of the dust plug, the dust plug material is unwound from the reel and cut into dust plugs of desired length. Guides on upstream and downstream ends of the tool bring the tape into contacting relationship with the weatherstrips to provide the assembled dust plug material.

    摘要: A machine for producing a wooden element made up of parallel rows of bars comprises a tape-applying device intended for such application of a strip of adhesive tape on pairs of adjacent rows in parallel therewith that the strip of adhesive tape joins the rows together, as well as a cutting device intended to cut the material web made up of the thus-joined bar rows into predetermined lengths. The cutting device has a reciprocatingly movable carriage provided with a rear cutting unit and a front stop element, the distance between the latter being adjustable according to the aimed-at cutting length. When fed forwards, the material web impinges upon the stop element, thereby to displace the carriage from an initial position to a turning position. The cutting unit performs a cutting operation during this displacement of the carriage. Before the carriage reaches its turning position, the stop element is removed in order to release the cut-off length of material web, thus enabling it to be discharged from the machine. A discharge conveyor discharges the cut-off length of material web at a speed exceeding that at which the material web is fed in the remainder of the machine. A return element returns the carriage to its initial position.

    摘要: A hot melt carpet seaming support which includes a plurality of flat generally rectangular slats, wherein the mid portion slats are slidable on a flexible wire or filament into abutting relation forming a flat continuous support for the heat bonding carpet tape beneath the opposed edges of the carpet sections to be joined. The carpet seaming support thus provides a firm support during bonding which avoids heat damage to the carpet pad. Further, the carpet seaming support is flexible about the wire or filament for easy removal of the seaming support particularly at the wall and coiling for storage. The method includes arranging the slats in abutting side-to-side relation beneath the carpet sections to be joined for receipt of the bonding tape and removal of the seaming support following bonding, as defined.

    摘要: A baseplate for a carpet seaming iron of the kind used for making a face seam with hot melt adhesive tape has the underside of the base plate formed with a forward, flat surface and a rearward, ribbed surface. The underside also has a longitudinally extending center groove shaped to form a raised bead of molten adhesive at the outlet end of the iron for coating the side edges of the carpet backings with hot melt adhesive. The forward, flat surface provides maximum contact for heating of the hot melt adhesive; and the rearward, ribbed surface meters the molten adhesive evenly over the full width of the tape. The forward ends of the ribs are longitudinally offset so as to form a V shape which helps to funnel molten adhesive both into the channels between the ribs and into the center groove at the apex of the V as the iron is moved along the tape.

In a first step, a strip of tape is applied onto the sheet of veneer close to each of its edges to be trimmed. In a second, subsequent step, the tape-reinforced edges of the sheet of veneer are trimmed by shearing, preferably using a pair of overlapping cutting discs positioned to produce the requested shearing action. A machine especially designed for carrying out this method is also disclosed.

    摘要: Apparatus for providing taped coils of sheet material comprises an intermittently operable feed roll mechanism for feeding a continuous web of sheet material through an intermittently operable web shear mechanism to an intermittently operable coiling mechanism on which coils are wound and which has an intermittently operable adhesive tape dispensing and applying mechanism associated therewith to tape the wound coil after web severance. The coiling mechanism comprises a rotatable expandable/retractable mandrel upon which the sheet material is wound into a coil while the mandrel is expanded; a pair of hold-down plates and a plurality of spaced apart web guide plates disposed around the periphery of the mandrel and adjustably positionable between winding and release positions to initially direct the severed leading edge of the incoming web around the expanded mandrel at the onset of coil winding; a plurality of spaced apart cage rollers disposed around the periphery of the mandrel and adjustably positionable between winding and release positions to press against the coil as it is being wound and thereby ensure tightness; a mandrel support mechanism to support the mandrel during winding; and an ejector mechanism for axially shifting a taped coil off the retracted mandrel when the mandrel stops rotating and while the hold-down plates, the web guide plates, and the cage rollers are located radially away from the mandrel and coil thereon in the release position. Control means are provided to operate the apparatus mechanisms and components thereof in timed relationship and enable sequential production of taped coils.

    摘要: A process for connecting a first web of a web-shaped material unwinding from a first roll with the beginning of a second web of a web-shaped material unwinding from a second roll, the beginning of the second web being cemented to the unwinding first web by attachment of the beginning of the second web to a transfer element and then effecting a relative movement between the transfer element and the first web. More specifically, a cementing occurs of the beginning of the second web to the transfer element by means of an adhesive area applied thereto. Thereafter, this area is accelerated to a lineal speed corresponding to the lineal speed of withdrawal of the expiring first web and in the same direction so that the loose initial region of the second web is simultaneously pulled tighter. The beginning of the second web is cemented to the first web by another adhesive area applied to the beginning of the second web on the side opposite the first mentioned adhesive area. The beginning of the second web is pulled away from the transfer element and thereafter the expiring first web is cut behind the point of cementation with the beginning portion of the second web. The second roll is accelerated by the tension exerted by the first web after the beginning of the second web has been cemented to the expiring first web. A yielding occurs to tension overloads and sudden loads exerted on the webs and the points of cementation between the web during initial acceleration by reason of the fact that the web is conducted over a forced storage means which yields under increased tension on the path of the web to further processing stations.
