The present invention discloses a log sawing system comprising multiple cutting blades. The multiple cutting blades are positioned to cut laterally or perpendicular to the centerline of the log which is to be cut. The logs are transported into cutting position using some type of log positioner. The multiple cutting blades are rotatably mounted on an arm which is pivotally mounted on a shaft in groups, being driven by an electrical or like motor, all of which are mounted onto a platform positioned adjacent to the log to be cut. Hydraulic lifters are used to partially rotate the saw blades into the cutting position adjacent the log. Means utilizing a computer and lasers are provided to develop a log cutting solution to best utilize the logs.

The top feeder assembly is secured to the frame and maintains a supply of raw kneadable material and minor ingredients to the side feeder assembly. The side feeder assembly includes an input housing, receiving raw material from the top feeder assembly and a preblender housing in communication with the input housing. A pair of oppositely rotating helical screws are disposed within the input and preblender housings for transporting the kneadable material to the kneader cylinder. The input and preblender housings are detachably connected to one another and slidably mounted on the frame, for selective movement between operating and cleaning positions. The preblender housing is also rotatably mounted on the frame, which further facilitates cleaning the unit. The cutter assembly includes a blade assembly which is selectively activated based on the volume of material entering a cutter housing from the kneader cylinder. A knife blade rotates in a circular motion so as to periodically sever a desired volume of kneaded material. The blade rotates away from the stream of material to a safety position between cuts. The system incorporates several safety features which disengage an electric motor used to drive the blade assembly upon detection of various conditions.

A system for cutting molten plastic material for compression molding includes a rotary-driven cutter mounted in operative association with an extruder which supplies molten plastic. The cutter is driven by a servo motor, the operation of which is coordinated with an associated rotary carousel on which cavities are successively presented to the cutter apparatus. In order to effect separation of each cut discrete quantity of plastic material from the cutting blade of the cutter apparatus, the servo motor is operated to create a period of distinct deceleration during each rotary cutting cycle, thereby effecting separation of the molten plastic from the surface of the cutting blade. The electronic controls of the apparatus further operate to permit the speed at which plastic cutting takes place to be controlled independently of the speed of the associated rotary carousel, while coordinating each cutting cycle with successive presentation of the cavities by the rotary carousel.

Apparatus and control circuitry used in a copy machine for providing copy paper cut to length in accordance with an original sheet sensed by a single switch in the path of travel of the original. A first feed roller is rotated via a clutch upon energization of a solenoid for the clutch when the leading edge of the original is sensed by the switch to connect the solenoid to a D.C. power supply via a capacitor. When the capacitor is nearly charged, current flow to the solenoid has diminished to a level where the armature of the solenoid is returned to its unactuated position. The leading edge of the copy paper is moved from a solenoid operated cutter to a second feed roller by the rotation provided by the first feed roll in response to the energization of the solenoid for the clutch. The second feed roller continues to pull copy paper from a supply roll until the trailing edge of the original moves past the switch causing the switch to connect the charged capacitor to the cutter solenoid to energize it and operate the cutter.

A method and apparatus for inspecting and marking flawed sheet material is disclosed. Sheet material is moved from a supply along its length through a path to a cutter. The sheet material is visually inspected as it moves along its path, and a temporary electrically conductive mark is applied to the moving material at a predetermined distance away from any flaw that appears in the sheet material. The temporary mark is electrically detected at a position along the path the same predetermined distance away from the cutter as the flaw moves into the cutter, and as the last portion of the segment to be cut from the sheet material moves to the cutter, the sheet material is marked with a permanent mark. The sheet material is then cut and folded, and the permanent mark is located at a predetermined position in the folded segment of sheet material, no matter at what location in the segment of the sheet material the flaw appears.

The invention is concerned with an electronic device for testing and controlling the clearing action of an electronic yarn clearer. The device comprises an individual fault measuring circuitry connected to the yarn sensing head of the yarn clearer for detecting yarn faults such as thick and thin places, and selector means for separating the non-tolerable faults from the rest. By comparing the output of the device and the output of the yarn clearer, the non-tolerable faults which have not been cut-out by the yarn clearer are detected. It is possible to eliminate also the latter faults from the yarn by actuating the severing device of the clearer.
