The present invention also relates to a composition isolated by such a method. The present invention also relates to the diagnostic and therapeutic application of these compositions. Furthermore, the invention relates to the use of HCV E1 protein and peptides for prognosing and monitoring the clinical effectiveness and/or clinical outcome of HCV treatment.

The process for its production comprises culturing a microorganism belonging to genus Aspergillus and isolating from the culture medium Asn-linked glycoprotein having a molecular weight of 32-84 kDa which adsorbs to Con. A, or a mixture thereof. The substance having antitumor activity is effective for treatment of solid tumors, ascites tumors, multiple cytoma and oval tumors and for the suppression of tumors.

Methods and compositions are provided for the control or prevention of aflatoxin contamination of agricultural commodities. Non-toxigenic strains of Aspergillus flavus are shown to inhibit aflatoxin production by toxigenic strains. Additionally, the non-toxigenic strains produce a factor in culture that alone inhibits aflatoxin production by toxigenic strains.

The invention relates to a new enzyme or urate oxidase which is very active in promoting oxidation of uric acid to allantoin. The urate oxidase is produced by fermentation under aerobic conditions of nutrient media containing sources of assimilable carbon, assimilable nitrogen and uric acid which have been seeded with suitable cultures of bacteria, fungi or yeasts. Isolation and purification of the urate oxidase is described.
