Abstract: A motor vehicle (1) has a front-end diffuser (7) that is open toward a ground surface, and has a device arranged in the region of the diffuser (7) and for varying the downforce of the motor vehicle in the region of a front axle of the motor vehicle. The device has an air conduit (12) with an inlet (13) in the region of a front-end positive pressure area of the motor vehicle and has an outlet (14) in the region of the diffuser (7), and has means (16) for opening and closing the air conduit (12). The device enables the downforce of the motor vehicle in the region of the front axle can be varied.

Abstract: Disclosed are body panel strakes for improved vehicle aerodynamics, methods for making and methods for using such aerodynamic strakes, and motor vehicles employing aerodynamic strakes for reducing turbulent flow and developing higher static pressure at the rear of the vehicle. An underbody panel for a motor vehicle is disclosed. The motor vehicle includes a vehicle body with an undercarriage spanning between front and rear vehicle ends. The underbody panel includes a panel body that attaches to the vehicle body and covers a portion of the undercarriage. One or more elongated air strakes are attached to and project from the panel body. Each air strake includes an elongated body that extends longitudinally with respect to the vehicle and has an inboard-facing curvature. The air strake guides airflow traveling fore-to-aft along the undercarriage in an inboard direction to thereby increase static pressure on the rear end of the vehicle.

Abstract: An active spoiler system for a vehicle includes a spoiler body having an airfoil shape in a cross-sectional view. The vehicle includes a vehicle body arranged along a longitudinal body axis and having a first vehicle body end configured to face oncoming ambient airflow and an opposing second vehicle body end. The spoiler body is configured to be moveably mounted between the first vehicle body end and the second vehicle body end to generate an aerodynamic downforce on the vehicle body when the vehicle is in motion. The spoiler system also includes a first mechanism configured to selectively translate the spoiler body along the longitudinal body axis to thereby adjust along the longitudinal body axis a location of the aerodynamic downforce generated by the spoiler body.

Each heat-shield-plate coupling portion includes a section that has a shape that becomes higher toward the corresponding undercover in the vehicle width direction. The heat-shield-plate fastened portions are each located above the corresponding lower end of the covering portion.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming a number of filler members. The apparatus comprises a surface model generator and an analyzer. The surface model generator generates a first surface model of a surface and a second surface model of a flexible surface. The surface and the flexible surface are to be mated to form a mated surface and a mated flexible surface. The analyzer performs a structural analysis using the first surface model and the second surface model to identify a predicted final shape of the mated flexible surface. The predicted final shape of the mated flexible surface is used to form the number of filler members to fill a number of spaces between the mated surface and the mated flexible surface.
