Abstract: Systems and devices are disclosed herein for absorbing unwanted target sounds. In one example, an acoustic scatterer for absorbing a target sound includes a housing defining a plurality of channels having an open end and a terminal end. The terminal ends of the plurality of channels are separate from each other and extend along a length of the housing. The acoustic scatterer also includes one or more spacers subdividing the plurality of channels along the length of the housing. In another example, a system for absorbing a target sound includes a plurality of acoustic scatterers, each having a housing that defines a plurality of channels having an open end and a terminal end. The terminal ends of the plurality of channels are separate from each other and extend along a length of the housing. The plurality of acoustic scatterers are stacked on top of each other in a lengthwise direction.

Abstract: The present teachings generally relate to an acoustic panel including a backing layer, honeycomb core attached to the backing layer, a mesh layer attached to the honeycomb core, and a face sheet including a flexible acoustic fabric face sheet attached to the mesh layer. The acoustic fabric face sheet can provide improved sound dampening characteristics over, for example, a perforated face sheet, and at a lower manufacturing cost, weight, and a simplified manufacturing process. The acoustic fabric face sheet can be or include a flexible woven and/or knitted fabric including a polymer such as an aromatic polyamide that includes a meta-aramid fiber, or a fiberglass fabric.

Abstract: A sound-absorbing air duct for a vehicle includes a lower non-woven fabric and an upper non-woven fabric sandwiching wires therebetween; and a film made of a polyester resin having a low melting point and disposed on the upper non-woven fabric, wherein each of the lower and upper non-woven fabrics includes a mixture between a first polyester fiber containing a polyester resin having a melting point higher than 250° C. and a second polyester fiber containing a polyester resin having a low melting point and having a softening point of 100° C. to 150° C., wherein the second polyester fiber includes a polyester resin having a low melting point composed of: an acid component including terephthalic acid or an ester-forming derivative thereof; and a diol component including 2-methyl-1,3-propanediol, 2-methyl-1,3-pentanediol, and ethylene glycol.

Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and methods for vehicle floor silencers include a silencer wall extending from a floor of the vehicle floor silencer and creating a barrier between an unsecured portion of a wire harness and a shift lever boot. The floor can be configured to be mounted to a vehicle support liner. The silencer wall can protrude from the floor. The silencer wall can be located immediately adjacent the shift lever boot (e.g., the silencer wall can at least partially define an opening through the floor so as to accommodate the shift lever boot). The vehicle floor silencer (i.e., the floor and the silencer wall in combination) can be fabricated as a single, monolithic piece.

Abstract: An all-terrain vehicle includes a frame, a vehicle cover, a plurality of wheels, a suspension, a prime mover assembly with an engine and a transmission, and an intake system. The intake system includes an air inlet on an instrument shield providing cooling air to the transmission. The instrument shield windward surface extends transversely, upwardly and rearwardly at an angle to horizontal in the range of 45 to 90 degrees. The vehicle cover includes left and right side cover assemblies each with insulation covers. The prime mover assembly is in an accommodation space extending inside of the left and right insulation covers, substantially isolated from contact with the left and right insulation covers by airflow within the accommodation space. Flow-guiding cavities are defined adjacent wind-in surfaces on the underside(s) of left and/or right front fenders, and the flow-guiding cavities introduce airflow into the accommodation space.

Abstract: An acoustic and thermal shield for a motor vehicle, including a porous shell based on fibers bound together by a binding agent and a spring layer based on elastically compressible polyurethane foam, the porosity of the shell being such that the foam is able to create a sealed skin on the underside of the shell, which fibers consist of two types: thick reinforcing fibers in an amount of 25 to 40% by weight of the shell and fine fibers in an amount of 15 to 35% by weight of the shell, the bonding agent being formed by fusible bonding fibers in an amount of 35 to 50% by weight of the shell, so that substantially no foam penetrates the thickness of the shell.
