The increased circulation and is achieved by positioning the greatest magnetic field strength in a location above one or more of the channel vertical legs. This arrangement is achieved by (a) using an angled core to position the field over the upper channel opening or (b) by positioning the upper channel leg opening by lowering the channel opening to within the magnetic core window.

    摘要: Methods and apparatus for moving a molten metal are provided in which the electromagnetic inductor includes at least two pairs of electromagnetic pole pairs and in which a first magnetic field component is generated between one pole in a first electromagnetic pole pair and a second pole in a different electromagnetic pole pair, and in which a second magnetic field component is generated between the two poles in one or more electromagnetic pole pairs, the second magnetic field component thereby generating one or more eddy currents in the molten metal. Those eddy currents are generally parallel to the surface of the molten metal and so have greater magnitude and extent that eddy currents perpendicular to the surface. Such eddy currents provide useful additional movement to the molten metal, for instance for stirring purposes, particularly when the depth of molten metal is small.

The melting furnace with an agitator includes a melting furnace that contains melt, and an agitator that agitates the melt by an electromagnetic force. The agitator includes a first electrode that is provided at an arbitrary position of the melting furnace so as to come in contact with the melt contained in the melting furnace, a second electrode that is provided near a bottom wall of the melting furnace so as to come in contact with the melt, a first magnetic field device that is provided outside the melting furnace so as to face the bottom wall of the melting furnace and makes a north pole face the bottom wall, and a second magnetic field device that is provided outside the melting furnace so as to face the bottom wall of the melting furnace and makes a south pole face the bottom wall. The first and second magnetic field devices are disposed with a gap in a certain direction.

Induction power is sequentially supplied to a plurality of coils surrounding the exterior height of the crucible at high power level and high frequency with in-phase voltage until a crucible batch of transition material is in the crucible when the induction power is reduced in power level and frequency with voltage phase shifting to the induction coils along the height of the crucible to induce a unidirectional electromagnetic stir of the crucible batch of material.

    摘要: Method for the electromagnetic stirring of the liquid metal (14) in direct current electric arc furnaces which include a hearth (35) defined by a floor (13) and by side walls (15), a central cathode (11) cooperating with anodes (12) arranged on the floor (13) of the furnace and fed by a main current (I.sub.0), wherein there is an electromagnetic system generating a magnetic field inside the liquid metal (14) whose vertical (B.sub.z) and radial (B.sub.r) components interact respectively with the radial (J.sub.r) and vertical (J.sub.z) components of the overall current present in the liquid metal (14). The method and device use a first electromagnetic system including at least a first winding (19) through which a current (I.sub.1) flows and operating from inside the floor (13) and the walls (15) of the hearth (35), and a second electromagnetic system generating a secondary induced current (I.sub.3), between adjacent anodes (12), which circulates through the liquid metal (14). The first winding includes a plurality of spirals (20), at least some of the spirals (20) being arranged inside the refractory of the hearth (35) in cooperation with the floor (13) and with at least a vertical segment of the side walls (15).
