    摘要: The invention provides an improved furnace structure and methods of melting material in furnaces, particularly aimed at reducing the start up time for such furnaces. The furnace (2) defines a container for the molten metal having a maximum depth of molten metal in that container during use. A flow generator (30) for the molten metal within the furnace is fed through a first conduit (32) and supplies material back to the furnace through a second conduit (36). The first conduit entrance is provided in the upper 60% of the maximum depth of the molten metal in the container and/or the second conduit exit is provided in the lower 25% of the maximum depth of the molten metal in the container. The flow generator may receive material preferentially from around the periphery of the container and/or direct material towards the centre of the container. The inlet and outlet to the flow generator may be angled downwards towards the container. All of these features improve heat transfer and material circulation within the furnace.

A molten metal level sensor (56) is located in the dosing chamber (40). The pump (22) is a variable speed pump having a pump inlet (24) connected to the holding chamber (12) and configured to pump the molten metal (50) through the dosing furnace (10) during operation. The molten metal level sensor (56) is connected to the pump (22) for providing a pump speed control signal to the pump (22). The molten metal level sensor (56) is configured to monitor the level of the molten metal (50) in the dosing chamber (40) and maintain a preset level of the molten metal (50) in the dosing chamber (40) by controlling the speed of the pump (22) with the pump speed control signal.

    摘要: In a charge well for adding scrap metal pieces or particles to a molten metal bath, a stationary diverter is provided within a charge well for diverting the circular flow of molten metal, caused by the orientation of the inlet port, in a downward direction, thereby creating a downward flow of molten metal which results in quick and efficient submergence of incoming lightweight scrap metal pieces or particles. Preferably, the diverter includes a leading edge which extends in a generally radial direction within the charge well and a flat top surface which tapers from the leading edge to a point or narrowed trailing edge. A downward curved surface extends from the leading edge to facilitate the downward flow of molten metal. The diverter may be mounted on a support member extending above the charge well.

    摘要: The present apparatus is comprised by two magnetic induction sets, one for melting of the raw material and the second for purification of molten metal; each set comprises a pot or crucible (1, 1'), an electromagnetic device, a filter (11) and a power supply; each crucible (1, 1') is surrounded in the lower part by a hollow permanent magnet (3, 3') in which three pairs of electromagnets facing each other are arranged; the process consists of the following stages: a) charging of metallic raw material inside a crucible (1); b) electromagnetic induction heating to melt the metallic raw material (2) inside crucible (1) through a three-phase magnetic system creating a horizontal travelling or pules magnetic field which builds a turbulent flux inside the melt (2'); c) whirling stirring of melt (2') by electromagnetic induction and purification of it via extraction of hydrogen and of non-electroconductive inclusions by coagulation of them in agglomerates; d) discharging of purified melt (2') by a magneto-hydrodynamic pump effect for the next treatment or technological actions such as the continuous or periodical casting through a filter for the mechanical filtration of the agglomerates.
