    摘要: Methods, apparatus and computer program products for processing signaling information for telephone call attempts in a packet-based telephony service. An overload protection node is introduced to protect a signaling node from an overload of signaling information for telephone call attempts. A characteristic of signaling information for telephone call attempts in the packet-based telephony service is monitored by the overload protection node and on the basis of the monitored characteristic, the overload protection node processes signaling information for telephone call attempts according to one of a number of different modes of operation. A mode of operation may involve transmitting signaling information for a call attempt to the signaling node or selecting one or more call attempts at the overload protection node for the purpose of reducing overload in the signaling node.

    摘要: Implementations of the present disclosure involve an apparatus and/or method for a regional independent tandem switch of a telecommunications network. The tandem switch processes communications between a long distance carrier and a local exchange carrier through a voice over IP (VOIP) network. By utilizing the VOIP network, the regionally independent tandem may process long distance communications to and from any point in the network, regardless of the physical proximity of the tandem to the originating/destination communication device. The regionally independent nature of the tandem also allows for flexibility in communication routing through the network, load balancing between the network tandem switches and reduction of needed components of the network for proper processing of the long distance communications.

    摘要: Upon detection of an overload condition at a network element, a series of messages is sent between the network element and those other network elements which may potentially send request messages to the overloaded network element. The detection of an overload condition may be based on a determination that at least one of a plurality of processing thresholds has been exceeded. If the network utilizes the SIP signaling protocol, then the messages include SIP INVITE, SIP TRYING, SIP CANCEL, SIP OPTIONS and SIP OK. The CANCEL and OPTIONS messages comprise an indication that the overloaded network element is overloaded and an instructed action for the other network elements. Upon receipt of the message indicating an overload condition, the other network elements restrict sending request messages to the overloaded network element. The other network elements may send request messages to network elements other than the overloaded network element which provide functionality similar to that of the overloaded network element.

    摘要: If interaction between signaling gateways frequently occurs, it is possible that extended processings are executed redundantly on a path of signaling messages. To avoid such a redundancy, a consistent method is necessary for deciding a signaling gateway to execute an extended processing from among the signaling gateways. The signaling gateways, each time they receive a signaling message, calculate information about a path through which it is transferred. By passing the path information in addition to the signaling message to an extended processing program, the signaling gateways decide whether to execute the extended processing on the signaling gateways, on a session basis. A signaling gateway that has executed an extended processing adds information indicating a processing status to the signaling message to notify other signaling gateways of it.
