Abstract: A handheld electronic device, such as a GPS-enabled wireless communications device with an embedded camera, a GPS-enabled camera-phone or a GPS-enabled digital camera, determines whether ephemeris data needs to be obtained for geotagging digital photos taken with the device. By monitoring user activity with respect to the camera, such as activation of the camera, the device can begin pre-acquisition of a GPS position fix by obtaining needed ephemeris data before the photograph is actually taken. This GPS pre-acquisition improves the likelihood that a position fix (GPS lock) is achieved by the time the photo is taken (to enable immediate geotagging). Alternatively, the photo can be geotagged retroactively by appending the current location to the metadata tag associated with the digital photo. An optional acquisition status indicator can be displayed on a user interface of the device to indicate that a position fix is being obtained.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided though which a transaction, e.g., in a multi-tier, distributed application may be initiated from a portable or hand-held device, such as a smartphone. A computer system or systems, possibly remote from the device, may approve the transaction, complete it, or both, and the remote computer system or systems may cause a document to be printed, e.g., by a printer physically proximate to the device.
Aspects of the invention are illustrated by embodiments in which a drug prescription may be created electronically using a hand-held device. In such an embodiment, the prescription may be transmitted to one or more remote computer systems, such as an application server, for processing. If specified, the remote computer systems may cause a prescription to be printed, e.g., at a printer near the prescriber's location. The prescriber may sign the printed prescription and give it to a patient or pharmacy.-

Abstract: A system to facilitate management of surveillance devices, that are distributed over a monitored region, through a geographic information (GI) portal, having GI storage to store map data defining a geographic map of the monitored region. A GI manager unit (GIMU) to record, in the GI storage, asset position information with regarding locations for assets of interest within the monitored region. The GIMU obtains, from a remote surveillance device (SD) database, device-related records. The GIMU stores the device related records in the GI storage. The device records are associated with the surveillance devices installed in the monitored region. The device records include position tags that identify a location of the surveillance devices in the monitored region. The GIMU obtains, from a remote network (NW) database, network-related records. The GIMU stores the network related records in the GI storage. The network-related records associated with network devices are installed over the monitored region. The SD and NW databases are maintained and managed separately from the GI database by one or more independent management units. A display presents a geographic map of the monitored region with device markers and network links illustrated thereon. The device markers indicate positions of the surveillance devices relative to the geographic map. The network links indicate communications links between network devices. A user interface permits a user to select from the surveillance devices and network links. The GIMU makes available to the user the device related records and documents and the network related records and documents associated with the selected surveillance devices and network links.

Abstract: The invention includes a print terminal that prints input image data and outputs the input image data as a print image, and an image storage server that is connected to the print terminal via a public network, and that stores the image data sent from the print terminal and user identification information. The print terminal creates, out of the print image, user identification information based on photographing location information and photographing date/time information included as data in a user identification information image specified by the user. In a case where the print terminal receives a re-input of image data of the user identification information image, the print terminal resends user identification information to the image storage server. In a case where an image directory including the resent user identification information internally exists, the image storage server sends the image data in the image directory to the print terminal.

Abstract: A camera scanner captures an image of a document stand on which an object is placed using a camera unit. The camera scanner obtains an IP address of an electronic terminal (a smartphone) and an identifier of an image from the image of a display screen of the electronic terminal placed on the document stand by detecting and decoding a QR code. The camera scanner is connected to the electronic terminal based on the IP address, transmits a data transfer request including the identifier of the image to the electronic terminal, and receives image data transferred from the electronic terminal in response to the data transfer request. Then the camera scanner projects and plays an image generated based on the data transferred from the electronic terminal on the document stand using a projector.
