Abstract:
An optical scanner forms an electrostatic latent image on a photosensitive member by scanning the photosensitive member with a light beam. The optical scanner includes: an incident optical system which at least comprises: a light beam emission device configured to emit a light beam; and a cylindrical lens configured to condense the light beam emitted from the light beam emission device, and a scanning optical system which at least comprises: a light deflecting device configured to reflect the light beam having passed through the cylindrical lens to deflect the light beam in a main scanning direction for scanning the photosensitive member; and a scanning lens configured to focus the light beam deflected by the light deflecting device on the photosensitive member to form an electrostatic latent image thereon. The incident optical system and the scanning optical system are divided by a light shielding wall.
Abstract:
An image input terminal (IIT) with automatic document handler for feeding documents to be scanned into registered position on the IIT platen. The IIT includes a pair of multi-element scanning arrays with cooperating scan lamp and optics on a movable carriage disposed in scanning relationship with the platen. Analog image signals generated by the scanning arrays are initially processed in separate channels and then combined into a serial stream. The stream of analog image signals may optionally be thresholded or screened to provide binary level image signals or converted to multi-bit gray scale.A control system including microprocessor provides timing and control signals for synchronizing operation of the scanning carriage, document handler, and image signal reading and processing together with electronic crossover between arrays to avoid loss of data, automatic signal gain control, and deletion of bad image signals or pixels. On board array alignment apparatus permits adjustment of array focus, skew, height, position and overlap.
Abstract:
An original reading unit has first and second arrays of sensor assemblies extending in a main scanning direction for performing readings of an original document. Each of the sensor assemblies includes a sensor holder that undergoes pivotal movement about a single rotation center as a fulcrum along a wall of a unit base to bring the sensor holder to a predetermined position whereat the sensor holder can be fixed to the units base wall. A line sensor is mounted relative to the sensor holder so as not to be shifted in the main scanning direction or in a sub-scanning direction, and to undergo movement in an approaching or a separating direction so as to be brought into contact with or separated from, respectively, the unit base wall and an original support plate attached to the unit base. A focus setup unit moves the line sensor in the approaching or separating direction and positions the line sensor at a location whereat focus can be adjusted.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for adjusting the location of the image sensor in an image reading device is disclosed. The image sensor may be adjusted around or along any of three mutually perpendicular axes which intersect the optical lens system of the image reading device.

Abstract:
An image reading system for optically reading an original includes a convergent type light-emitting diode array as a light source, a white level reference and an image sensor disposed opposite to the white level reference. The light emitted from the LED array has a light intensity distribution which reduces in level in a transverse direction from an irradiation axis. The LED array is preferably so disposed with its irradiation axis passing a mid-point between the white level reference and an intersection point between an original surface travelling line and a straight line extending between the white level reference and the image sensor.
