The invention relates to a method for uniformly coating a metallic or metallised braided hose, in particular a stranded braided hose with a solder or a soldering and fluxing agent. According to the invention, the solder is provided in bar or tubular form, wherein the outer diameter or the cross-sectional area of the bar or the tube is chosen to be less than the inner diameter or the inner cross-sectional area of the braided hose. Furthermore, the solder is pushed into at least one longitudinal portion of the braided hose and the solder is fixed in the braided hose cavity. Further processing of the braided hose, in particular heating to the melting point of the solder introduced, can then be performed in a generally known way.

A directional electrostatic dissipating fabric and method of making such fabric constructed of a woven or knitted base fabric having an integrally woven or knitted grid structure which is raised above only one surface of the base fabric forming a fabric with a raised grid on one side and a smooth or substantially smooth grid on the other side thereby resulting in increased, directional electrostatic dissipation performance from the side having the raised grid. The grid is formed from an electroconductive yarn plied to a carrier yarn which is then integrally woven or knitted into the fabric in the warp direction, the fill direction or both, thereby producing a fabric which exhibits the rapid, yet controlled, directional dissipation of static electricity into the air. Such fabric can be used for anti-static covering cloths, filtration media and the like; but is particularly adapted for use in anti-static garments and it is particularly comfortable when the smooth or substantially smooth surface is adjacent the wearer and the raised surface is on the outside of the garment.

An improved multiwire conductor of the type which is mechanically stabilized by a tin based solder filler. A solder filled conductor is heated to a temperature above its melting point for a period long enough to allow a substantial amount of copper to be dissolved from the wires comprising the conductor. The copper forms the brittle intermetallic compound Cu.sub.5 Sn.sub.6 with tin in the solder. After cooling the conductor is flexed causing a random cracking of the solder, and thereby increasing the interwire resistance of the conductor. The subject invention is particularly adapted for use with braided, ribbon-type solder filled superconductors.

A short braided conductor 1 is obtained by cutting a long braided conductor 10 configured by braiding a plurality of strands 11 into a tubular shape to a desired cutting length (L1). The strands 11 are, for example, configured by conductors such as bare soft copper wires, oxygen-free soft copper wires or tin-plated soft copper wires.
