Abstract: A method to restore the functional state of an automatic machine for the production or the packaging of consumer products. The method comprises the steps of: storing a first knowledge base containing a plurality of problematic operating conditions having a corresponding known fault; training the data processing system by associating ate least one solution to each problematic operating condition and storing a second knowledge base containing the solution; identifying a current operating condition; searching, among all the problematic operating conditions stored in the first knowledge base, for the problematic operating condition that is the most similar to the current operating condition; and communicating to an operator the solution associated with the corresponding problematic operating condition and stored inside the second knowledge base.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method for providing information concerning a global behavior of a machine learning model trained with measured sensor data representing technical parameters of a technical system and used to evaluate the technical system, including, receiving the machine learning model and measured sensor data generating a number of synthetic sensor data by a synthetic data generator, predicting labels for the synthetic sensor data and the measured sensor data by the result of the machine learning model when processing the synthetic sensor data and the measured sensor data as input data, training a surrogate model based on the synthetic sensor data and measured sensor data and the predicted labels, calculating an agreement accuracy indicating the similarity of a result of the surrogate model compared to a result of the machine learning model, outputting to a user interface the trained surrogate model and the agreement accuracy.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for determining causal models for controlling environments. One of the methods includes identifying a procedural instance; selecting control settings for the procedural instance, comprising, for a particular one of the controllable elements: assigning the procedural instance to a cluster for the particular controllable element in accordance with current values of a set of clustering parameters for the particular controllable element; and selecting a setting for the particular controllable element for the procedural instances based on a causal model that is specific to the cluster; obtaining environment responses to the selected control settings that define a value of the performance metric for the procedural instance; and updating, for the particular controllable element, the causal model for the cluster for the controllable element to which the procedural instance was assigned based on the value of the performance metric.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for determining causal models for controlling environments. One of the methods includes repeatedly selecting, by a control system for the environment, control settings for the environment based on internal parameters of the control system, wherein: at least some of the control settings for the environment are selected based on a causal model, and the internal parameters include a first set of internal parameters that define a number of previously received performance metric values that are used to generate the causal model for a particular controllable element; obtaining, for each selected control setting, a performance metric value; determining that generating the causal model for the particular controllable element would result in higher system performance; and adjusting, based on the determining, the first set of internal parameters.

Abstract: Assistance apparatus for automatically identifying failure types of a technical system is provided including at least one processor configured to determine for each sensor data a set of specific temporal courses of first time series of the sensor data of the sensor and assign a symbolic representation to each of the different specific temporal courses, provide at least one failure pattern, obtain more than one monitored time series of sensor data of the technical system, each of them divided into a sequence of time segments, and automatically assign to each time segment a symbolic representations according to the temporal course of the sensor data in the time segment, calculate a similarity measure for the set of symbolic representations of a selected time interval, determine a ranking of the failure pattern depending on decreasing values of the calculated similarity measure, and output the ranking.

Abstract: Systems and methods for data collection in an industrial environment are disclosed. An expert graphical user interface showing representations of components of an industrial machine to which sensors are attach is disclosed. The user interface may enable a user to select at least one of the components resulting in a search of a database of industrial machine failure modes for modes that correspond to the selected component. The corresponding failure mode may be presented to the user. The selection of the component may cause a controller to reference and implement a data collection template for configuring the system to automatically collect data from sensors associated with the selected component to detect at least one of the corresponding failure modes.

Abstract: A system includes an expert graphical user interface configured to: present a list of reliability measures of an industrial machine, facilitate a selection by a user of a reliability measure from the list of reliability measures, present a representation of a smart band data collection template associated with the reliability measure selected by the user, and a data routing and collection system configured to, in response to a user indication of acceptance of the smart band data collection template, collect data from a plurality of sensors in an industrial environment in response to a data value from one of the plurality of sensors being detected outside of an acceptable range of data values.
