Abstract:
A carburetor with a body with a cavity in which an adjustable fuel valve is received. To inhibit access to and manual adjustment of the valve, a cover may overlay at least a portion of the adjustable valve. In some forms, a releasable lock plate may be received between the cover and the adjustable valve. Specialty tools may release the lock plate and adjust the valve.
Abstract:
A fuel regulating method and mechanism for a rotary throttle (barrel-type) carburetor which prevents an end-user A/F adjustment that would cause increase in fuel quantity to a level in excess of a regulated value so as to comply with the exhaust gas emissions regulations. A cylindrical throttle valve having a throttle hole is disposed in an air intake passage of the carburetor body 12, the air flow is controlled by rotation of the throttle valve and the fuel flow is controlled by the position of a fuel regulating needle, attached to the throttle valve, relative to a fuel jet port of a fuel supply pipe in the carburetor body due to axial movement of the throttle valve. A bypass passage is provided within the carburetor body to communicate the throttle valve hole and fuel jet area with the air intake passage upstream of the throttle valve. An air flow regulating needle valve in the air passage is operable to adjust the bypass air flow in the air passage to lean the pre-set idle A/F ratio from a maximum rich factory adjustment. The fuel regulating needle valve is sealed to prevent exterior access by the end-user after making the factory adjustment.
Abstract:
In at least some implementations, a locking plate may be received between the cover plate and the adjustable valve and be movable to a first position permitting access to the adjustable valve and a second position inhibiting or preventing access to the adjustable valve. In some implementations, a latch assembly may releasably retain the locking plate in its second position. The latch assembly may include a finger carried by the locking plate and releasably engageable with a stop when the locking plate is in its second position.
Abstract:
An apparatus for atomizing liquid fuel while mixing it with air, and varying the amount of each while maintaining a substantially constant fuel/air ratio for the intake manifold of an engine. The apparatus includes a frame (16) forming a passage (14) with a throat (44), with a second wall (56) of the passage being moveable toward and away from a stationary first wall (54) of the passage to vary the cross-section of the passage and thereby vary airflow. A fuel-carrying tube (24) has a proximal end (60) fixed to the first stationary wall and has a distal portion (62) that extends through a bore (64) in the moveable wall and with the moveable wall being slideable around the tube. The tube has at least one aperture (70) for flowing fuel into the passage, with the exposed aperture area being progressively increased as the moveable wall moves away from the stationary wall to flow a progressively increasing amount of fuel into the passage. The moveable wall is moved by a lever (134) that can be moved by the throttle of the engine.
Abstract:
A tubular grid exhaust fume conducting heat exchanger is mounted on a horizontal top face of the fuel mixture manifold of an internal combustion motor, said grid supporting vertically centrally thereon a cylindrical tubular fuel and air mixing housing the upper end of which supports and receives air from an air filter, the lower portion of which housing has a butterfly valve mounted therein and connects downwardly, directly through said heat exchanger with said fuel mixture manifold.A jacketed and exhaust fume warmed fuel reserve canister provides a screen bottomed chamber which encloses a spherical plastic float and admits fuel axially downwardly into said chamber through a flow governing needle valve closed by said float when said float is lifted in said chamber by the fuel rising to its normal operating level. Fuel is delivered from the bottom of said canister to the middle of said throttle valve housing from which point it is diffused through the air stream flowing downwardly through said housing when the throttle is opened.A unique air suction and mixing verturi tube and a raw fuel measuring needle valve are throttle manipulated jointly with the butterfly valve and are designed to greatly increase the percentage of the fuel used which is converted by combustion into power and a consequent marked reduction in the amounts of irritants exhausted into the atmosphere.
