Abstract:
A pyrolysis apparatus having a heating system adapted to heat a first gas enclosure, wherein a gas path within the heated enclosure is helical or spherical. Pyrolysis is used to destroy oils, tars and/or PAHs in a gaseous mixture.
Abstract:
A char making apparatus comprises a longitudinal pyrolyzer furnace housing wherein coal-bearing material may be heated to a temperature to fluidize volatile materials therein and plasticize coal in the coal-bearing material. At least two rotatable drive screws are laterally positioned and interleaved within the longitudinal furnace housing and capable of conveying coal-bearing materials through the pyrolyzer furnace housing, each drive screw having a hollow drive shaft and a diverter positioned within the drive shaft to provide heating to the coal-bearing material. A heating jacket about the longitudinal furnace housing provides additional heating to the coal-bearing material. Multiple combustion chambers adjacent the heating jacket and hollow drive shaft burn fluidized volatile materials and exhaust combustion fluids through the jacket and shaft.
Abstract:
This invention is directed to a process for making coke and recovering the heat therefrom for preheating the firing gas to the coke oven. The process involves the use of the coke oven firing gas to extract the sensible heat from the hot coke from the coking oven to both preheat the firing gas for the coke oven and cool the hot coke. Significant economies are achieved in the two-fold function of coke production and heat recovery in accordance with the method disclosed.
Abstract:
In a horizontal type coke oven, high temperature waste gas generated in a heating flue chamber and containing nitrogen oxides is discharged into a regenerator. There are provided nozzle openings for injecting ammonia or ammonia precursor to the high temperature waste gas at a position where the temperature of the waste gas is about 750.degree.-1000.degree. C. so as to reduce the nitrogen oxides in the waste gas with the ammonia or ammonia precursor.
Abstract:
A main drive shaft is provided with a plurality of sleeves, some of which are provided with arms for operating the rods for the lean gas, air lid, and waste heat valves of the coke oven battery. Other sleeves are linked to a fluid-actuated cylinderpiston assembly that moves the other sleeves into coaction with the first sleeves, and thereby interlock them and prevent inadvertent actuation of the valves.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for drying and pyrolyzing carbon-containing materials to produce valuable products including char, oil, gas and thermal energy. The present invention involves a method whereby carbon-containing material 1 is maintained in a heated region predominantly free of oxidizing gases to promote pyrolysis reactions, and the thermal energy required to drive the process is provided via the combustion of a proportion of the volatilized matter with an oxygen containing gas in the same chamber 3. The arrangement of the chamber 3 eliminates the need for any form of solid physical barrier between the concurrent pyrolysis and combustion reactions occurring in the process, and also avoids any requirement for external means of recirculating the gaseous volatilized matter. The present invention also relates to a method for improving the transfer of thermal energy from the combustion to pyrolysis zones via radiative and convective heat transfer mechanisms.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an apparatus for the material treatment of raw materials. The apparatus has a heating system, a distillation unit and a reaction unit to be loaded with the raw materials for treatment. The heating system can be opened and closed to be fitted with the reaction unit. The heating system comprises a top element and a jacket element firmly connected to the top element, and supporting elements. The length of the support elements can be varied in the vertical direction, between two end positions, the heating system can be opened and closed in the vertical direction of movement. The invention further relates to a method for operating an apparatus for the material treatment of raw materials.
Abstract:
In the method according to the invention for increasing the calorific value of a material flow containing carbon, preferably a material flow of renewable raw materials, the material flow is brought in direct contact with at least one low-oxygen, inert hot gas flow in a reactor, wherein the hot gas flow is formed at least 50%, preferably at least 80%, by exhaust gas of a process for thermally processing cement raw meal and/or lime and/or an ore, wherein at least part of a preheater exhaust gas for preheating the cement raw meal and/or lime and/or ore is used as the hot gas flow.

Abstract:
An improved by-product coke oven wherein the ends are heated through the doors or jambs to prevent condensation of the tar and the deposit of carbon and coal. This improved coke oven possesses improved sealing features and minimizes pollution during coking and during the extraction of the doors.
