Abstract: Cement slurries, cured cements, and methods of making cured cement and methods of using cement slurries are provided. The cement slurries have, among other attributes, improved expanding capabilities and may be used, for instance, in the oil and gas drilling industry. The cement slurry comprises water, a cement precursor material, and an expanding agent. The expanding agent comprising at least a poly(acrylic acid)-metal oxide nanocomposite, where the metal oxide comprises MgO, CaO, or both, and the poly(acrylic acid) comprises a t-butyl terminal group, an isobornyl terminal group, or both.

Abstract: Systems and methods related to preparing foamed cement for laboratory analysis are provided. A prepared cement slurry is placed in a cement reservoir cell configured to pressurize the cement slurry contained within the cement reservoir cell to a capture pressure. After pressurization, the cement slurry and a compressed gas are introduced into a foam generator. Foamed cement generated in the foam generator is introduced from the tee into a foam capture cell where it can cure prior to analysis.

Abstract: A method of fracturing a subterranean formation comprising: introducing a fracturing fluid into the subterranean formation to create or enhance one or more fractures in the subterranean formation; introducing a cement composition into the one or more fractures, wherein the cement composition comprises: (A) cement; (B) water; and (C) an additive; and allowing the cement composition to set, wherein the additive creates a plurality of pores within the set cement.

Abstract: A method for strengthening perlite microspheres may include providing a plurality of perlite microspheres, and heating the plurality of perlite microspheres at a temperature of at least about 600° C. for at least about five minutes to form strengthened perlite microspheres. A composition may include the strengthened perlite microspheres formed from the above-noted method. At least one of a drilling fluid and a well cement may include a slurry including at least one fluid, and a composition including strengthened perlite microspheres. A slurry may include at least one fluid and a plurality of perlite microspheres. The plurality of perlite microspheres may be strengthened by at least one of (1) heating the plurality of perlite microspheres at a temperature of at least about 600° C. for at least about five minutes: and (2) adding at least one metal component and at least one silicate component to the plurality of perlite microspheres.

Abstract: The invention provides compositions and methods for sealing subterranean spaces such as natural or induced fractures, vugs or annular spaces. The composition is composed of a base fluid consisting of a soluble alkali silicate, a gas generating additive, solids and a setting agent. The gas generating additive may be coated or uncoated. The gas generating additive may also be in the form of a slurry. In the case of coated additives, the coating may act as a retarder or an accelerator to the expansion and setting agent of the soluble alkali silica. Similarly, the choice of carrier fluid in a slurry may retard or accelerate the expansion and setting of the alkali silicate-based plug.
