Abstract:
A method of colouring cementitious building materials such as concrete is disclosed. The method uses flowable, spray-dried, particulate formulations of inorganic pigments prepared using a selection of formulants that do not substantially effect primary ettringite formation. Quantities of the formulations may conveniently be dispensed into a slurry of cement and water by gravimetric or volumetric means.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to methods and compositions for the treatment of subterranean formations. In various embodiments, the method includes obtaining or providing a composition including at least one-ion sequestering compound, sequestering at least one ion from a polymer in the composition with the at least one ion-sequestering compound, and contacting a subterranean material downhole with the composition.
Abstract:
Hydrophilic, self-cleaning coating compositions and methods to make and use the compositions are disclosed. The coatings comprise perlite and/or expanded perlite that are activated with hydrophilic agents. The perlites when incorporated in paints provide hydrophilic, self-cleaning and/or biocidal property to the coating.
Abstract:
A directional electromagnetic steel sheet with a coating includes a directional electromagnetic steel sheet; and a coating that is formed on the surface of the directional electromagnetic steel sheet and contains elements P, Si, Cr and O as well as at least one element that is selected from the group consisting of Mg, Al, Ni, Co, Mn, Zn, Fe, Ca and Ba, with 5% by mass or more thereof being composed of a crystalline phase of a phosphate salt.
Abstract:
A refractory structural element is provided that is useful for lining the inner surface of a construct typically used as a kiln or other high temperature system. An element includes a stem portion associated with a flared end block portion whereby the flared end block portion is compatible with other structural elements to form a substantially continuous tiled surface when a plurality of refractory structural elements are laid adjacent to each other. The stem portion optionally has a plurality of protrusions decorated on its outer surface that may serve to adjust heat dissipation from the element.
Abstract:
A method of preparing a building material is provided. An aggregate material, water, a hydraulic binder material, and one or more hydraulic activators are mixed. The hydraulic binder material comprises slag material. The mixture is allowed to harden. A building material is also provided. The building material includes a slag material, and one or more hydraulic activators.
Abstract:
A method for the preparation of pigment granules includes mixing at least one pigment selected from the group consisting of iron oxide and chromium oxides with 1-25 wt. % water to form a damp powder. The damp powder is then pressure extruded through at least one die to form granules. The granules are then dried so that the final water content of the granules is less than about 1%, crumble and sieved to form the final product.
Abstract:
The invention provides novel methods and novel additive compositions and use thereof in a wide range of concrete production for improving properties of concrete materials, such as durability and aestheticity. The methods and compositions of the invention may be applied in a variety of cement and concrete components in the infrastructure, construction, pavement and landscaping industries.
Abstract:
Refractory compositions and methods of forming articles therefrom are provided that include a plurality of aggregate particles and a binder intermixed with the aggregate particles. The binder composition includes sintered crystalline chromium metaphosphate or chromium-aluminum metaphosphate, or combinations of the two distributed in the binder. The provided compositions are free of chromium oxide yet exhibit excellent slag resistance and are easily disposed of.
