A plurality of granules comprising ceramic particles bound together with an inorganic binder, the inorganic binder comprising reaction product of at least alkali silicate and hardener, wherein the ceramic particles are present as at least 50 percent by weight of each granule, based on the total weight of the respective granule, wherein each granule has a total porosity in a range from greater than 0 to 50 percent by volume, based on the total volume of the respective granule, and wherein the granule has a minimum Total Solar Reflectance of at least 0.7. The granules are useful, for example, as roofing granules.

A process for the manufacturing of a slurry containing nucleating agents which comprises reacting at least one source of a Ca containing compound with at least one source of a Si containing compound, in an aqueous media and in the presence of a doping agent selected from the group consisting of P, B, S, and mixtures thereof; wherein: (i) the reaction is carried out at a temperature comprised from 100 to 350° C.; (ii) the total molar ratio Ca/Si is 1.5-2.5, and (iii) the total molar ratio doping agent/Si is 0.01-2; provided that: (a) when the sole doping agent is P, the total molar ratio P/Si is 0.1-2; (b) when the sole doping agent is B, the total molar ratio B/Si is 0.01-2, and (c) when the sole doping agent is S, the total molar ratio S/Si is 0.1-2.

The present invention describes a hardening accelerating admixture for hydraulic binders, the accelerator being based on transition metal silicate hydrates having the general formula: aMexOy bMO cAl2O3 SiO2 dH2O 1) where—Me represents a transition metal whose molar coefficient a is in a range between 0.001 and 2, preferably between 0.01 and 1; —M represents an alkaline earth metal whose molar coefficient b is in a range between 0 and 2, preferably between 0.3 and 1.6; —The molar coefficient c for Al2O3 is in a range between 0 and 2, preferably between 0.1 and 1; —H2O represents the hydration water of the silicate hydrate whose molar coefficient d can vary within a wide range between 0.5 and 20; x and y can both be equal to 1 or different, depending on the valence of the transition metal, given that the valence of the oxygen atom in the metal oxide is equal to 2.

A process for producing insulating foam, wherein certain especially small inorganic minerals such as silica fume are directly integrated into bubble fluid to better mechanically strengthen bubbles formed and thus allow the formation of smaller bubbles to be reformed. The manner of reforming the bubbles is progressive and actualized by a glass bead chamber, a second stage consisting of two screened discs, separated from each other and located at the end of the glass bead chamber, and a third stage chamber presenting itself with a considerably enlarged screen area and having considerably finer meshes than the second stage.

Building materials include a dampening layer which contains a plaster and a viscoelastic polymer, such as polyvinyl butyral. The dampening layer may also include a barium salt. Methods of making a sound dampening material include providing a plaster mixture. The mixture may include a viscoelastic polymer and/or a barium salt. The plaster mixture is combined with water and/or a viscoelastic polymer dispersion, to form a slurry. The slurry is applied to a surface and set to form a sound dampening layer.

The invention relates to a composition comprising, based on the dry weight of said composition, (A) 10 to 70% by weight of one or more hydraulic binder and (B) 20 to 85% by weight of one or more filler, wherein the composition contains 0.05 to 5% by weight, based on the amount of the hydraulic binder, of at least one terpenoid alcohol, wherein the terpenoid alcohol is not terpineol or borneol. Additionally disclosed is a hardened product made by the composition and the use of at least one terpenoid alcohol in a composition, comprising hydraulic binder and filler, to reduce the shrinkage of the wet composition during curing.
