    Abstract: A method for operating a steering assist system of a motor vehicle, in which during a steering movement of the driver while driving the vehicle a steering assistance is determined. The steering assistance provided by an electro-hydraulic or electro-mechanical drive and may depend on the vehicle speed. The steering assistance providing a supportive force or a supporting moment to the steering system, wherein the provision of the steering assistance depends on the result of a judgment of whether there is a discrepancy between the determined steering assistance and the driver's steering intention based on a steering movement of the driver and a current value at least one steering parameter. A discrepancy exists between the steering assistance and the driver's intention to drive when a current value of a steering parameter exceeds a predetermined limit value. The steering parameters including a deviation between a steering assist torque and the driver steering torque exceeding a predetermined limit or the steering angle exceeding a predetermined limit. In such cases, the steering assistance is adjusted or prevented.

    Abstract: A driving supporter includes a support inhibitor that inhibits support of driving when a steering-operation value is greater than a threshold value. The support inhibitor includes a threshold-value determiner that determines the threshold value to a value greater when a first object and a second object are present than when the first object is present, and the second object is absent. The first object has a relationship in which a relative positional relationship between the object and an own vehicle is a relationship in which a steering operation is estimated to be performed in a first direction in which the own vehicle avoids the object. The second object has a relationship in which the relative positional relationship is a relationship in which the steering operation is estimated to be performed in a second direction reverse to the first direction such that the own vehicle avoids the object.

    Abstract: A method is provided for steering a vehicle, wherein the forces for steering the wheels are generated by a steering torque, and wherein the steering torque is applied by a mechanical steering system and/or a steering actuator. The method includes the following steps: automatic phase: automatic steering of the vehicle in that a control unit calculates an automatic torque and actuates the steering actuator to apply the automatic torque, so that the steering torque corresponds to the automatic torque, wherein a driver intervention during the automatic phase and a manual torque applied to the steering wheel by the driver are detected, engagement phase: maintaining the calculated automatic torque as a steering torque by ignoring or compensating the manual torque until the manual torque has exceeded a defined threshold torque, wherein the threshold torque is greater than zero, and transfer phase: reducing the automatic torque after the threshold torque has been exceeded, wherein the steering torque corresponds to the sum of the manual torque and automatic torque.

    Abstract: An ECU includes a deviation calculating circuit an assist control circuit, an automatic steering control circuit including an intervention determination switching circuit, an adder, a current command value calculating circuit The intervention determination switching circuit includes a count amount calculating circuit, an adder, an immediately-preceding count amount output circuit, a switching determination circuit, and an output switching circuit. The count amount calculating circuit calculates a count amount having a positive value or a negative value based on a steering torque absolute value calculated by an absolute value switching circuit. The adder calculates a total count amount that is the total sum of a presently calculated count amount and an immediately-preceding count amount calculated in an immediately-preceding calculation cycle. The switching determination circuit determines a driver's intention to intervene in steering, based on whether the total count amount is equal to or greater than a count amount threshold value.
