In a cross-sectional geometry in a plane bisecting the median sagittal plane and the transverse plane, a thickness of the elastomer member changes along the median sagittal plane in a direction parallel to the transverse plane with a first thickness at both opposing sides and a second thickness at the transverse plane, where the second thickness is greater than the first thicknesses.

    摘要: A process of forming a shaped, dimensionally stable tampon includes the steps of: radially compressing a tampon blank to form a dimensionally stable intermediate pledget having an intermediate pledget diameter and a longitudinal axis; placing the intermediate pledget into a hollow carrier and inserting the intermediate pledget and hollow carrier into a mold; urging the intermediate pledget into the mold via a ram bearing on an end of the intermediate pledget contained within the hollow carrier and withdrawing the hollow carrier from the mold to permit the exposed end of the intermediate pledget to substantially fill the mold and to form the shaped, dimensionally stable tampon; removing the shaped, dimensionally stable tampon from the mold; and enclosing the shaped, dimensionally stable tampon in a primary package that conforms to the shape thereof. The mold has an access opening through which the hollow carrier can be withdrawn.

    摘要: Methods of compression molding powdered polytetrafluoroethylene resins to produce composite articles of manufacture having at least two distinct layers of two types of PTFE resin are disclosed. A first layer of resin, preferably including a filler, is placed in a compression mold and partially compressed at a relatively low pressure. A second layer of resin, preferably virgin resin, is then added to the mold and both layers are simultaneously fully compressed. After compression, the resulting composite preform is preferably sintered and coined to create a finished PTFE material or product. In a preferred embodiment, the partial compression step is performed at pressures of less than 500 psi. It has been found that modified PTFE resins provide improved resistance to cold flow and also provide better binding between filled and unfilled (virgin) layers and thus are used in certain preferred embodiments.

A mold material discharge mechanism deposits a predetermined amount of mold material in each of the molds. A heat source superheats the molds, and a mold closing mechanism closes the superheated molds, compressing the mold material between the mold cavities and the mold cores to form a deep-draw component A coolant source rapidly and actively cools the molds, and a mold opening mechanism opens the cooled molds. An ejector is disposed to eject the deep draw components from the molds. A method of molding deep-draw components is also disclosed. The system and method of the present invention facilitate compression molding of deep-draw components.
