Abstract:
Provided is a method in which a computational device generates a design of a negative mold of teeth. The negative mold of the teeth is fabricated from the design of the negative mold. An aligner is formed using the fabricated negative mold. Provided also is a negative mold of teeth for fabricating a positive model of the teeth for an aligner. The negative mold comprises a tooth surface, and an identity tracking entity coupled to the tooth surface to provide identification.
Abstract:
Methods are disclosed for forming a decorative faceplate for attachment to an ear insert. An impression medium is first inserted into an ear for forming an impression of at least a portion of the ear concha and ear canal. An initial ear insert is formed based on the impression, which insert has an inner portion configured for insertion into the ear canal and an outer portion configured to be disposed in the ear concha and to face outward away from the ear. The outer portion further includes a faceplate attachment area having a perimeter edge that is configured to receive a faceplate. A model of the perimeter edge is generated, and a faceplate is formed from a faceplate material using the model as a guide. A final ear insert is formed, and the faceplate is attached to the faceplate attachment area of the final ear insert.
Abstract:
An apparatus having an exterior surface that simulates a natural surface, and method of manufacturing same, comprising a polymer-foam sidewall having a concave first surface, a first end, and a second end. According to one embodiment in which the apparatus is a hunting blind, the sidewall is generally cylindrical and further has an inner surface, and defines a plurality of windows extending between the inner and outer surfaces. A first endwall is adjacent to the first end of the sidewall. A second endwall is adjacent to the second end of the sidewall. The sidewall, first end wall, and second endwall define an interior space that may be occupied by a hunter.
Abstract:
Producing a scaled multiple parallax compound lens is accomplished by providing an insect eye having multiple ommitidia and creating a polymer mold of the insect eye. A casting is then created from the polymer mold with an expandable polymer mold. A second casting is then created from the second polymer mold. Duplication of the process can be accomplished for further scaling up of the compound lens with the final casting created using a durable polymer having appropriate optical properties for the lens.
Abstract:
A helmet liner that is custom-fitted to a wearer's head, and methods of making the liner, are provided. To make the liner, scanning equipment directly scans the person's head to generate computer-readable data containing a surface map of the head. This data then is used by suitable machining equipment to machine a custom-fitted liner from a universal liner blank, whose resulting convex surface will substantially conform to the shape and contour of the person's head. The scanning equipment desirably is or includes one or a plurality of lasers. A mobile platform including both the scanning and the machining equipment also is provided.
Abstract:
An amputated part holding apparatus has a contact member provided in a casing to define a particle charge chamber between the contact member and the casing. The contact member comes into pressing contact with an amputated part owing to increased pressure in the particle charge chamber. The chamber is charged with particles to generate pressing force. The amputated part holding apparatus is further provided with a particle supply unit including a particle charging device.
Abstract:
A method for making a thermosetting polymer reproduction of an object preferably comprises the steps of modifying an original object such as an object found in nature (e.g., a stone or array of stones) or a manmade article (e.g., a carved decorative object) to a predetermined configuration, making a first mold of at least part of the surface of the original object, filling the first mold with a first thermosetting polymer material to produce a reproduction of at least part of the surface of the original object, modifying the reproduction to a predetermined configuration, making a second mold from the modified reproduction and filling this second mold with a thermosetting polymer material to produce a reproduction of at least part of the surface of the original object. The second mold can be used repeatedly to produce reproductions in commercial quantities.
Abstract:
A method is described that includes making a first impression of the face of a surgical patient prior to the commencing of surgery and of making a second impression of the face after the first impression has been made. Typically, the first and second impressions are a negative first and second impression that are each used in turn to make a first and a second positive impression of the face which are then used for making a comparison therebetween and also for teaching purposes. The second impression may be taken during the actual surgical procedure or it may be taken after surgery has been completed and the patient has fully healed. If desired, a third impression may be made after the second impression has been taken. The third impression is typically a third negative impression that is used to create a third positive impression. The third positive impression is also used for comparison purposes.
