摘要: A method for roughening an inner surface (8) of a cylindrical bore (9), in particular a running surface in a cylindrical bore or cylinder liner of an internal combustion engine. A rotating tool (1) is moved in a translatory manner in the axial direction of the cylindrical bore (9) and has a radial cutting head (7). A chip (12) is lifted off by at least one cutting edge of the radial cutting head (7) and is broken away via a further edge or face of the radial cutting head (7), in order to produce the roughened surface. The tool (1) is introduced into the cylindrical bore (9) or is passed through it, after which a positioning of the tool (1) in the radial direction takes place, and after which the removal of the material takes place via the rotating tool (1) when the tool is moved in its advancing direction (V) out of the cylindrical bore. A tool (1) is also claimed.

The tool includes a tool body to be attached to a spindle of a rotary machining tool, and a plurality of cartridges each attached to a leading end face of the tool body, having a cutting blade and being position-adjustable in a radial direction. The tool body has a coolant passage for transporting coolant along a rotational axis direction. A discharge hole for the coolant is comprised of a first discharge hole provided between the plurality of cartridges in a leading end face and a second discharge hole provided in an outer circumference of the tool body and directed toward the cutting edge of the cutting blade.

摘要: A drill includes a pair of main cutting edges extending from a distal portion of the drill to a position close to a proximal end of the drill to entirely define a two-edge configuration, and a pair of auxiliary cutting edges extending between positions at the distal and proximal sides of a maximum diameter position to partly define a four-edge configuration. A ridgeline of each auxiliary cutting edge is located within an angle smaller than 90° from a ridgeline of the corresponding main cutting edge toward the rear in a rotation direction of the drill. The point angle of the auxiliary cutting edges increases at a higher rate than the point angle of the main cutting edges in a predetermined range from the maximum diameter position toward a distal end of the drill.

摘要: A cutting tool assembly comprising a tool holder formed with an insert retaining pocket having a pocket base wall and in which is releasably mounted a cutting insert and a shim. The cutting insert is of a substantially prismatic shape having an upper surface, a lower surface and side relief flank surfaces and at least one cutting corner defined therebetween and presenting at least one cutting edge formed by the intersection of the upper surface and a corresponding number of the side relief surfaces adjacent thereto. The shim generally correspondes in shape and size to the cutting insert, the insert and the shim being releasably mounted in the pocket by clamping means so that an upper supporting surface of the shim supports the lower surface of the cutting insert and a lower bearing surface of the shim bears against the pocket base wall, at least a portion of the shim's lower bearing surface being formed, substantially in the region supporting the cutting corner, with a pattern of protrusions adapted to indent the pocket base wall.
