The roughening device has a shaft for attaching to a conventional drilling device at one end and a tubular side wall bearing cutters/abraders at the other. There is a void between the shaft and the side wall which is filled by an elastomeric material which cushions the action of the cutters/abraders.

    摘要: An expandable band and locking mechanism is used to install and secure a flexible sealing element, such as a rubber seal or gasket, against an internal annular surface, such as in a manhole or pipe. The expandable band is capable of expanding and being locked at various diameters. The expandable band preferably has a plurality of deviations or ribs that provide a plurality of pressure points against the sealing element. The expandable band includes a first locking region, such as an end locking portion of the band, and a second locking region, such as one or more adjustable locking elements or notches in the band. The locking mechanism preferably includes a locking member having a first locking tab for engaging with the end locking portion of the band and a second locking tab for engaging with one of the adjustable locking elements or notches in the band. The locking mechanism further includes a housing for covering the locking member and engaging the band. An intermediate biasing member between the housing and the locking member, preferably made of an elastomeric material, biases the locking member toward locking engagement with the expandable band.

The seal comprises a hollow trapezoidal cavity formed by spaced circumferentially extending walls and radially extending walls of elastomer or other material formed of substantially uniform thickness. Additional materials extending radially from the circumferentially extending walls form inner and outer annular sealing ribs that contact portions of adjacent pipes thereby to effect a seal between those sections. A non-compressible liquid fills the cavity thereby to promote uniform sealing pressure around the periphery of the pipes notwithstanding the relative position of the adjacent pipe sections.

    摘要: An anchoring device for anchoring a threaded member such as a screw or bolt in a substrate material includes an anchoring sheath for receiving the threaded member. The anchoring sheath includes annular anchoring ribs formed around a body portion of the anchoring sheath and at least one longitudinal rib extending along at least a portion of the body portion of the anchoring sheath and extend outwardly from the anchoring sheath. In a sheath with more than one longitudinal rib, the longitudinal ribs lie in different planes which intersect at the longitudinal axis of the anchoring sheath. The anchoring sheath preferably includes top and bottom regions which have no annular or longitudinal ribs. The bottom region can have an extended length to accommodate threaded members of varying lengths and a hole providing drainage of water, ice, or other debris as the threaded member is tightened into the sheath. The top region can further include a sleeve positioned around the sheath to match the modulus of elasticity of at least the top portion of the anchoring sheath to that of the substrate, and to prevent fractures in the substrate caused by stress in the substrate. The anchoring sheath may be coated with a resilient, elastomeric layer.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for grinding a surface on a workpiece, such as a spigot on a pipe, while supporting the workpiece on the surface being ground. The grinding apparatus includes workpiece support wheels, two of which are positioned beneath the workpiece and contact the workpiece at the surface being ground. The grinding apparatus also includes a rotator mechanism, such as a motor which drives one of the workpiece support wheels in frictional contact with the workpiece outer surface, for rotating the workpiece. The grinding apparatus further includes a surface grinding mechanism, such as a motor and grinding or cutting wheel positioned generally between the two workpiece support wheels and which contacts the surface being ground. The cutter mechanism is adjustable in a vertical direction and angularly to grind an angled surface. According to the method of grinding, the grinding surface of the workpiece is maintained in contact with the two workpiece support wheels so that the workpiece self-feeds towards the surface grinding mechanism. The grinding apparatus can also include an end workpiece support to prevent horizontal movement of the workpiece, a top workpiece support to prevent vertical movement, a measuring device for measuring the depth of the grinding surface, and an adjustment control mechanism for automatically controlling the adjustment of the cutter mechanism.

The plastic encapsulated bolt includes a tapered threaded nose that engages the internally threaded portion such that the sections of the plastic female anchor expand outwardly as the plastic encapsulated bolt is threaded therein, causing the anchor to engage in an interference fit with a hole, for example, in concrete.

    摘要: A band assembly for effecting a seal particularly adapted for use in establishing a joint between a sewer pipe and a reinforced concrete manhole riser. The seal is affected by a tapered elastomeric tubular connector boot and a clamping band member with an expansion mechanism. Wedge followers are loosely captured in the end sections of the clamping band and lie along a circumferential center line on the band. Driving wedges extend along an axis transverse to the circumferential center line. The wedge followers and wedge drivers both have divergent edge sections that interengage and slide over one another as the driving wedges are pulled together by a clamping mechanism comprising, in a simplest form, a nut and bolt. As the driving wedges move toward the circumferential center line, they displace the wedge followers. The wedge followers engage the end portions of the clamping band and force it and the connector boot into a sealing relationship with the surrounding manhole riser.
