    摘要: Disclosed is an exhaust extension apparatus and method for converting a motorcycle exhaust system into a dual or quadruple exhaust system. The device is suited for motorcycles, off-road vehicles, or a vehicle with a reciprocating engine with multiple cylinders. Each exhaust extension unit comprises two metallic pipes shaped and welded together to form an exhaust extension unit having one exhaust intake and two equal-flow exhaust exits. Two exhaust extension units may be paired and connected to the exhaust pipes on each side of a motorcycle rider's seat, thereby providing a quadruple set of exhaust pipes and further, an increase in the performance of the engine.

    摘要: The headrest support tubes are secured to the seat frame member not by the usual welding, but by gripping the web of the member between two rings or lock-beads swaged into the metal of the tube. The first ring is swaged-out by compressing the tube. The tube, with the one ring, is then assembled into a through-hole in the web of the frame member. Then, the second ring is swaged into the metal of the tube, on the other side of the web, and the web lies gripped between the rings. The seat frame member may be an I-section extrusion, or a round tube with localised squeezed-flat areas, flanked by flanges.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for interlocking at least one first tube (10) having a first diametric spacing between opposite points of the tube wall with a second tube (4) having a second diametric spacing between opposite points of the tube wall which is larger than the first diametric spacing. The first tube is loaded over a mandrel (50) having a punching end (54), and disposed into a holding block (30) having a holding cavity (32) conforming closely to the outer surface of the first tube. The second tube is disposed over a receiving block (40), which has a receiving cavity conforming closely to the outer surface of the first tube. The punching end of the mandrel is driven through the second tube and into the cavity in the receiving block, followed by the first tube. When the first tube reaches a lower limit of the receiving cavity, the first tube is compressed axially. The mandrel supports the interior of the first tube, the holding cavity prevents the trailing portion of the first tube from swelling outwardly, and the receiving cavity prevents the leading portion of the first tube from swelling outwardly. Thus, the portion of the first tube disposed inside the second tubular member swells under the axial compressive force, permanently interlocking the first tube with the second tube. The punching steps can be separated from the remaining steps of the method of the invention, or the second tube can be pre-punched. In further embodiments the method and apparatus of the invention can create a clinched interlock and/or a ‘T’-shaped interlocked assembly.

    摘要: A method of manufacturing a vehicle frame assembly includes the initial steps of providing first and second side rails and providing first and second cross members. Each of the first and second cross members has first and second ends extending from a central portion. A desired torsional stiffness is determined for the first cross member. In response to this determination, the first and second ends of the first cross member are enlarged so as to achieve the desired torsional stiffness for the cross member. A similar process can be conducted for the second cross member. Then, the first ends of the first and second cross members are secured to the first side rail, and the second ends of the first and second cross members are secured to the second side rail to form a vehicle frame assembly.

The device is constituted by a band, which is substantially rigid and is in the form of a closed loop.     摘要: Disclosed herein is a tubing connection comprising a longitudinal slot in a second tube member with a pair of inwardly bent flanges along the longitudinal edges of the slot and a first tube member having an end flattened to form two spaced flattened surfaces. The flattened surfaces are separated by recesses cut in the end of the first tube between the flattened surfaces forming two tabs which extend inside the second tube member through the longitudinal slot. The flanges and tabs are spread to conform to the inside contour of the second tube member and a reinforcing member is then pressed inside the spread tabs.
