A filter cartridge includes a radio frequency identification, RFID, tag positioned on a casing. A compressed cellulose foam is positioned over the RFID tag on the casing. An impermeable material is positioned over the cellulose foam on the casing at an outer surface of the casing. The impermeable material defines a passage that extends through the impermeable material to the cellulose team. The passage is configured such that water is flowable through the passage to the cellulose foam. The compressed cellulose foam is configured for wicking the water from the passage to the RFID tag.

[Also in Division G1] To determine the degree of clogging of a filter for fluids the filter housing is made movable against a spring by the pressure difference built up across it, and the extent of movement is measured electrically. As shown (Fig. 1), a filter assembly 28, located in a housing 10 between a fluid inlet 16 and outlet 14, comprises two annular end members 30, 42 bolted together to hold a filter element 52 and biased by a spring 34 against one side. Member 42 carries a resilient contact 64 which cooperates with a resistance winding mounted on the housing 10 by a bolt 66. Clogging of the filter element causes a pressure difference to develop moving the assembly 28 axially against the spring and also moving contact 64 along the resistor, enabling the movement to be measured. Excessive clogging produces sufficient movement of assembly 28 to allow the fluid to by pass the filter element 52 and flow through slots 58. Another embodiment is described with reference to Fig. 4 (not shown).

Disclosed are capsule/tube connector/tube assemblies that eliminate a connection point in a filter capsule apparatus. A relatively soft tube is thermally or sonically bonded to a relatively hard tube connector that may have a tube receiving bore, a frustoconical tube receiving channel or a straight tube receiving channel. The tube connector is bonded to a filter capsule port. The manufacturing process can be either a one-step process bonding the tube and capsule during formation of the tube connector in one step, or a two-step process that binds the tube to the tube connector in one step and binds the tube connector to a filter capsule port in a second step. Single and dual-walled tubes may be used as well as single and dual-walled tubes having reinforcing material superposed about or embedded in the tube wall(s). A tube support collar is also disclosed. Also disclosed are capsule port/tube connector/tube combinations in which capsule port tips and tube connectors are combined to create tube-receiving gaps or channels to secure a tube to a capsule assembly. Multiple capsule/tube connector/tube assemblies may be connected to form a filter train.
