摘要： The present invention relates to a method for treating inflammation, arthritis or disc diseases using a pharmaceutically effective amount of a mixed extract of Cibotii Rhizoma, Ledebouriellae Radix, Achyranthis Radix, Paeonia lactiflora Pall, and Glycyrrhizae Radix according to the present invention, and since the mixed extract of Cibotii Rhizoma, Ledebouriellae Radix, Achyranthis Radix, Paeonia lactiflora Pall, and Glycyrrhizae Radix increased the survival rate of macrophages in vitro, decreased the production of NO, which is involved in anti-inflammation, inhibited all of COX-2, iNOS and MMP expressions, showed nerve cell regenerative and protective effects, exhibited pain-inhibitory effect and arthritis edema-inhibitory effects in vivo, and showed disc volume decrease and absorption effect in patients of disc diseases, the mixed extract of Cibotii Rhizoma, Ledebouriellae Radix, Achyranthis Radix, Paeonia lactiflora Pall, and Glycyrrhizae Radix could be used effectively for methods for treating inflammation, arthritis, or disc diseases.

The material can be extracted from a freeze-dried decoction of a mixture comprising the following Chinese herbs: Radix Ledebouriella, Fructus Tribuli, Herba Potentilla chinensis, Caulis Clematis armandii, Radix Rehmannia, Radix Glycyrrhiza, Radix Paeonia rubra, Cortex Dictamni radicis, Herba Lopatheri, Spica Schizonepetae. The material comprises one or more of those components present in the freeze-dried decoction which run with Rf values in the ranges 0.00 to 0.100, 0.167 to 0.300, 0.400 to 0.533, 0.700 to 0.833 or 0.900 to 0.967 if the freeze-dried decoction is diluted in aqueous solution and subjected to chromatography on a Whatman 2 cms×55 cms×3 mm cellulose strip for 10 hours using a solvent mixture of butanol, ethanol and water in the proportions 4:1:1.

摘要： A process is provided which is suitable for the preparation of herbal compositions for the treatment of skin disorders such as eczema and psoriasis. The process comprises preparing an extract or extracts of herbs which provide an anti-inflammatory agent, an adrenocortical stimulant and a cortisol protecting agent by steam distillation and decoction and then treating the extracts to reduce the polysaccharide and/or sugar content. This is achieved by fermentation or enzymic action or by extraction with a solvent having a polarity in the range E.degree. 0.4 to 0.95 or by precipitation with an inorganic compound and/or colloid or by a combination of two or more of the above. As a final concentration step, the material is further purified by extraction with a solvent having a polarity in the range mentioned above. The reduction of the sugar/polysaccharide content greatly improves the handling characteristics of the extract which can be dried to a free flowing powder. Tablets and capsules for oral administration can be prepared from the extract and it is also suitable for the preparation of topical compositions.

The preparation has been used in China for 20 years, and in Israel for more than 5 years. It has been used to treat thousands of patients suffering from asthma with an effective rate of 93%.
