摘要: A femoral head prosthesis is a multilayer composite having a metal neck stem component thread or press fit into a hollow rigid shell of metal or ceramic, a polymeric core filling the interior volume under the hollow rigid shell and around a forward part of the neck stem, and a smooth, void-free polymeric articulation layer of at most 12 mm over the exterior of the shell. The prosthesis is formed by a polymeric molding process wherein polymerizing resin or heated thermoplastic material is flowed in a mold through a set of holes through the hollow shell into the interior volume and around the shell's exterior. Once the resin has cured or the thermoplastic cooled, the stem, core, shell and articulation layer collectively form an integral prosthesis of a desired head diameter matching a patient's anatomy.

摘要: A disc replacement device including a first body member with a convex articulation surface and a second body member with a concave articulation surface is disclosed. When operably positioned, the convex articulation surface engages the concave articulation surface to provide for movement therebetween. The disc replacement device also includes a first opening in the first body member and a second opening in the second body member, wherein the openings are angled and extends from the front aspects of the body members through the external surfaces. The disc replacement device further includes at least two bone fasteners for insertion into the first and second openings to secure the disc replacement device to a first and second vertebra. An interbody motion device and fusion implant, as well as a surgical method for implantation are also disclosed.

摘要: An implant (1), in particular an acetabular implant, for implantation into a bone has, at least in parts, a surface structure (2) of raised portions (3) and depressions (4). The depressions (4) have zones coated with a porous coating (5). The raised portions are either not coated at all or are coated such that the coating has a thin layer thickness or a higher abrasion resistance in these portions. In this way, an improved abrasion behavior is reached when the implant is inserted into the bone.

摘要: This invention improves upon prior art total disc replacements (TDRs) by more closely replicating the kinematics of a natural disc. The preferred embodiments feature two or more fixed centers of rotation (CORs) and an optional variable COR (VCOR) as the artificial disk replacement (ADR) translates from a fixed posterior COR that lies posterior to the COR of the TDR to facilitate normal disc motion. The use of two or more CORs allows more flexion and more extension than permitted by the facet joints and the artificial facet (AF). AF joint-like components may also be incorporated into the design to restrict excessive translation, rotation, and/or lateral bending.

摘要: A disc replacement device including a first body member with a convex articulation surface and a second body member with a concave articulation surface is disclosed. 摘要: The invention is generally related to an intervertebral implant for replacing an intervertebral disc of the human spine. The intervertebral implant includes a first conformable endplate, the first conformable endplate being conformable to a boney vertebral endplate under an anatomical load, a second endplate and a core between the endplates, wherein the first conformable endplate partitions the core from the boney vertebral endplate, whereby the core does not contact the boney vertebral endplate. The invention is also directed to a method of replacing an intervertebral disc. The method includes removing at least a portion of an intervertebral disc to form an intervertebral disc space, implanting a first conformable endplate, into the intervertebral disc space and in contact with a first honey vertebral endplate, the first conformable endplate being conformable to the first boney vertebral endplate under an anatomical load; implanting a second endplate into the intervertebral disc space and in contact with a second boney vertebral endplate; and implanting a core between the first conformable endplate and the second endplate, wherein the first conformable endplate partitions the core from the first boney vertebral endplate, whereby the core does not contact the first boney vertebral endplate.
