摘要: Apparatus and methods for endodontic treatment of teeth provide effective cleaning of organic material (such as pulp and diseased tissue) from the root canal system. In an embodiment, a compressor system generates high pressure liquid (e.g., water) that flows through an orifice to produce a high-velocity collimated jet of liquid. The high-velocity jet is directed toward a surface of a tooth, for example, an exposed dentinal surface, and impingement of the jet onto the surface generates an acoustic wave that propagates throughout the tooth. The acoustic wave effectively detaches organic material from dentinal surfaces and tubules. The detached organic material is flushed from the root canal system by the liquid jet and/or by additional irrigation.

摘要: A reciprocating endodontic hand tool in which the torque applied to an instrument such as a debriding file can be set at or below an endurance limit of the file below which failure of the instrument will not occur. In preferred embodiments the tool can switch between settings in which the torque applied to the instrument is between the endurance limit of the file and an elastic limit of the file, by setting forward and reverse angles of rotation within specified limits. This reduces or eliminates opportunites for plastic distortion, fatigue and breakage of the file during the canal debriding/cleaning/shaping process in a root canal treatment or retreatment. In some embodiments the torque may be set to at or below a durability limit of the file below which failure of the instrument will not occur through repetitive strain over the course of a particular root canal treatment or retreatment.

摘要: A three-dimensional computer model of the patient's tooth, including the pulp chamber and root canals, is created by combining at least one grey value image of the tooth and/or surface information about at least part of the intra-orally visible part of the tooth with a statistical, parameterized shape model of each tooth type (upper or lower incisors, canines, pre-molars, molars) as the patient's tooth to be treated. This allows for planning and/or simulation of one or more root canal treatments on the computer model of the patient's tooth and that the dentist or dental specialist is given qualitative and/or quantitative information by the system in order to aid in adequately analyzing the risks related to performing the root canal treatment with the proposed or user-selected endodontic tools.

摘要: A device for drying a root canal includes a cannula configured to inject a gas stream into the root canal. The cannula is a conduit having a proximal end in fluidic communication with a distal end. A handpiece is configured to removably hold the proximal end of the cannula at a distal handpiece end. A gas stream source is connectable to a proximal end of a tube. A distal end of the tube is connectable to the proximal handpiece end. A cut-off valve is disposed within the handpiece in fluidic communication in series between the distal handpiece end and the proximal handpiece end. The cut-off valve is configured to cut off the gas stream flowing through the handpiece. A manually-controlled operating element is mechanically coupled to the cut-off valve, where the operating element is configured to be controlled by a dentist or technician holding the handpiece.

摘要: A device for irrigating a canal during a root canal treatment or retreatment provides a fluid reservoir in fluid communication with at least one pump for delivering an irrigant under pressure. A hand-held wand has a proximal end for receiving the irrigant under pressure, permitted to flow through the wand head by an actuator. An irrigant delivery needle which affixed to the working end of the wand delivers irrigant through at least one irrigant dispersion orifice at a selected delivery angle and pressure. Aspirating means and/or shielding may optionally be provided.
