Abstract: The invention provides a physiological probe that comfortably attaches to the base of the patient's thumb, thereby freeing up their fingers for conventional activities in a hospital, such as reading and eating. The probe, which comprises a separate cradle module and sensor module, secures to the thumb and measures time-dependent signals corresponding to LEDs operating near 660 and 905 nm. The cradle module, which contains elements subject to wear, is preferably provided as a disposable unit.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for performing the method are disclosed. The method includes obtaining cardiac output power data on a user; obtaining kinetic data characterizing physical exercise intensity of the physical exercise performed by the user; detecting that a measured cardiac output power exceeds a first threshold or that physical exercise intensity changes according to a rate exceeding a second threshold; upon the detecting, determining a synthetic cardiac output power parameter based at least partly on the kinetic data; and outputting the synthetic cardiac output power parameter.

Abstract: A jacket that includes a first portion, a second portion, and an interface. The interface is movably coupled to the first portion and the second portion. The first portion comprises multiple medical modules. The multiple medical modules include at least one medical sensor and a physiological signal conduit for transferring a physiological signal from an inner side of the first portion to an exterior side of the first portion. The first and second portions are configured to be detachably coupled to a mobile phone. When the jacket is at a closed position then the first portion, the second portion and the interface define an inner space that is configured to receive the mobile phone and the first and second portions contact opposite sides of the mobile phone. When the jacket is at an open position, then only one of the first and second portions contacts the mobile phone.

Abstract: A Wearable Cardiac Defibrillator (WCD) system is configured to be worn by a patient who carries a mobile communication device. The mobile communication device has a user interface that is configured to enable the patient to enter wireless inputs. The WCD system includes a communication module that is configured to establish a local comlink with the mobile communication device. The WCD system also includes a tethered action unit that has a user interface configured to enable the patient to enter action inputs. The WCD system can perform some of its functions in response to the action inputs or to the wireless inputs. Since the wireless inputs can be provided from the mobile communication device instead of the action unit, the patient is less likely to attract attention when entering them, and thus exhibit better compliance.

Abstract: Described herein are methods, systems, and software for monitoring blood pressure. In some embodiments, a using a mobile device is used. The blood pressure monitoring system utilizes heart rate measurements at two separate locations on the body to calculate a differential pulse arrival time which is used to estimate blood pressure. The heart rate measurements can be taken simultaneously, or they can be taken sequentially while simultaneously taking ECG measurement. If taken sequentially, the heart rate measurements are aligned with the ECG to determine the differential. Accurate, inexpensive, and discreet blood pressure monitoring is thus provided.

Abstract: A system for monitoring cardiac health of a user including a local sensing subsystem, a contactless interrogation subsystem, and a remote monitoring subsystem. The local sensing subsystem may include a sensor patch configured to attach to the user and include a substrate, a passive radio-frequency identification transponder, and a first antenna. The contactless interrogation subsystem may include an interrogator separated from the sensor patch, which may include a second antenna, a demodulator, and a communications link. The remote monitoring subsystem may include a computing system comprising a processor for executing instructions. The local sensing subsystem may be adapted to perform at least one scan. The contactless interrogation subsystem may be adapted to operate the demodulator to receive a cardiac event and to operate the communications link to transmit the cardiac event. The remote monitoring subsystem may be adapted to execute the instructions to detect an arrhythmia from the cardiac reading.
