    Abstract: A sensor assembly comprising single crystal diamond material, the single crystal diamond material comprising a surface which is configured in use to contact a fluid, the surface comprising a sensing surface region, wherein the single crystal diamond material comprises a plurality of quantum spin defects in proximity to the sensing surface region. The sensor assembly further comprises a first electrode and a second electrode. The electrodes are located such that, in use, they generate an electric field proximate to a surface of the sensing surface region, the electric field being sufficient to generate oxidising species in the fluid for removing contaminant material from the sensing surface region.

    Abstract: There is provided a method and apparatus for processing a diamond surface. The method comprises: i. locating a diamond material having a first surface and a second, opposite surface, in a holder, the holder located at the end of a positioning arm; ii. processing the first surface on a rotating wheel; iii. while the diamond material is in the holder, measuring an angle of the first surface relative to the second surface; iv. repeating steps (ii) and (iii) until a desired angle is achieved.

    Abstract: A diamond lens (3) configured for use in a multispectral imaging system (1). The diamond lens (3) has a largest linear dimension of at least 10 mm and is formed from diamond material having a birefringence An of greater than 1×10−4, measured over a specified area of at least 4 mm by 4 mm through a maximum thickness of at least 400 μm.     Abstract: An optical element comprising a window formed of synthetic diamond material and an optical surface pattern formed directly in a surface of the synthetic diamond material. The window of synthetic diamond material is in the form of a wedged diamond window with non-parallel major surfaces defining a wedge angle in a range (1) arcminute to 10° and the optical surface pattern is formed directly in one or both of the non-parallel major surfaces. There is also described a laser system comprising the optical element and a laser having a coherence length, wherein the coherence length of the laser is greater than twice a thickness of the wedged diamond window at its thickest point.

    Abstract: Single crystal CVD diamond material comprising a total nitrogen concentration of at least 5 ppm and a neutral single substitutional nitrogen. Ns0, to total single substitutional nitrogen, Ns, ratio of at least 0.7. Such a diamond is observed to have a relatively low amount of brown colouration despite the relatively high concentration of nitrogen A method of making the single crystal diamond is also disclosed, the method including growing the CVD diamond in process gases comprising 60 to 200 ppm nitrogen, in addition to a carbon-containing gas, and hydrogen, wherein the ratio of carbon atoms in the carbon-containing gas to hydrogen atoms in the hydrogen gas is 0.5 to 1.5%.
