Abstract: A method of producing a cubic boron nitride sintered material includes: forming an organic cubic boron nitride powder by attaching an organic substance onto a cubic boron nitride source material powder; preparing a powder mixture including more than or equal to 85 volume % and less than 100 volume % of the organic cubic boron nitride powder and a remainder of a binder source material powder by mixing the organic cubic boron nitride powder and the binder source material powder, the binder source material powder including WC, Co and Al; and obtaining the cubic boron nitride sintered material by sintering the powder mixture.

Abstract: The cubic boron nitride sintered material is a cubic boron nitride sintered material comprising: cubic boron nitride particles in an amount of 70 vol % or more and less than 100 vol %, and a bonding material, wherein the bonding material includes an aluminum compound, and includes cobalt as a constituent element; the cubic boron nitride sintered material has a first region in which a space between adjacent cubic boron nitride particles is 0.1 nm or more and 10 nm or less; and when the first region is analyzed by using an energy dispersive X-ray analyzer equipped with a transmission electron microscope, the atom % of aluminum in the first region is 0.1 or more.

Abstract: Provided is a cubic boron nitride sintered body including more than or equal to 85 volume percent and less than 100 volume percent of cubic boron nitride particles, and a remainder of a binder, wherein the binder contains WC, Co, and an Al compound, the binder contains W2Co21B6, and, when IA represents an X-ray diffraction intensity of a (111) plane of the cubic boron nitride particles, IB represents an X-ray diffraction intensity of a (100) plane of the WC, and IC represents an X-ray diffraction intensity of a (420) plane of the W2Co21B6, a ratio IC/IA of the IC to the IA is more than 0 and less than 0.10, and a ratio IC/IB of the IC to the IB is more than 0 and less than 0.40.

Abstract: A composite sintered body according to the present invention contains at least cubic boron nitride and a binder. Cubic boron nitride has a continuous skeleton structure as a result of bonding of a plurality of first cubic boron nitride particles to each other. The binder has a continuous structure as a result of bonding of a plurality of binder particles to each other, that are present in a region except for a bonding interface where the first cubic boron nitride particles are bonded to each other. Second cubic boron nitride particles isolated from the first cubic boron nitride particles forming the skeleton structure are dispersed in the continuous structure of the binder particles.

Abstract: A composite sintered material contains cubic boron nitride particles and binder particles. The composite sintered material contains 40 vol % or more and 80 vol % or less of the cubic boron nitride particles. The binder particles contain TiCN particles. The composite sintered material shows a first peak belonging to a (200) plane of the TiCN particles in a range in which a Bragg angle 2θ is 41.7° or more and 42.6° or less in an X-ray diffraction spectrum measured using a Cu-Kα ray as a ray source.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing a cubic boron nitride cutting tool including a base metal and sintered cubic boron nitride compact at a corner portion of the base metal, capable of improving the accuracy of the center height and reducing the angle of inclination or width of a negative rake face; and the cubic boron nitride cutting tool. The method includes grinding the compact by pressing it against an end face of a grindstone of a grinder to form flank and rake faces on the compact while the base metal of the cutting tool is held by a chuck of the grinder, so that the compact is substantially ground. The rake face is formed to be recessed from a top face of the base metal or only a portion of the compact that protrudes from a base-metal rake face is ground while the tool is continuously held by the chuck.

Abstract: A cutting tool according to an aspect of the present disclosure includes a shank, a joint, and a cutting portion attached through the joint to the shank. The cutting portion includes a core and a surface portion. The surface portion is disposed around a central axis of the cutting portion to cover an outer circumferential surface of the core. The surface portion includes a cutting edge. The cutting edge is disposed on an outer circumferential surface of the surface portion and formed in a helical shape about the central axis. The surface portion is a composite sintered material including a hard phase formed of a plurality of diamond particles and a plurality of cubic boron nitride particles, and a binder phase forming the remainder.

Abstract: A cutting tool includes a cutting insert that is held in a holder in a detachable manner. The cutting insert has a substantially regular quadrangular shape in plan view and includes four round corners. The cutting insert is formed of CBN sinter as a whole. The cutting insert includes two principal surfaces that are upper and lower surfaces opposite to each other, and four side surfaces that are arranged so as to connect the principal surfaces to each other. A boundary portion (ridge line portion) between each of the principal surfaces and each of the side surfaces forms a cutting edge. In a central portion of each of the side surfaces of the cutting insert, a groove for absorbing a crack, having a substantially V-shape in cross section, is formed all around the cutting insert so as to be recessed with respect to the side surfaces.

Abstract: A sintered compact has a first material, a second material, and a third material. The first material is cubic boron nitride. The second material is a compound including zirconium. The third material is an aluminum oxide and the aluminum oxide includes a fine-particle aluminum oxide. The sintered compact has a first region in which not less than 5 volume % and not more than 50 volume % of the fine-particle aluminum oxide is dispersed in the second material. On arbitrary straight lines in the first region, an average value of continuous distances occupied by the fine-particle aluminum oxide is not more than 0.08 μm and a standard deviation of the continuous distances occupied by the fine-particle aluminum oxide is not more than 0.1 μm.

Abstract: A tool includes, at least on its edge, a sintered cBN compact which includes cBN particles and a bonding phase, a plurality of flutes is formed on a rake face, each of the flutes having a starting end on the edge ridgeline and causing the edge ridgeline to be wavy, and the terminal end of the flute is disposed inwardly of the edge ridgeline. It is preferable that the flute width of the flute decreases with distance from the edge ridgeline, the flute depth of the flute decreases with distance from the edge ridgeline, and the rake face has a positive rake angle.
