摘要: An energy bank includes a plurality of integrated energy storage devices including a plurality of supercapacitors, a plurality of batteries and a plurality of metal shells. Each of the integrated energy storage devices includes a battery, a supercapacitor surrounding the battery, and a metal shell surrounding the supercapacitor. The supercapacitor forms a shell around an exterior surface of the battery. The battery includes a first anode, a first cathode, and an electrolyte disposed between the first anode and the first cathode. The supercapacitor includes a second anode, a second cathode, and a separator disposed between the second anode and the second cathode.

摘要: A solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) includes a cathode having a yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) structure. The YSZ structure is in contact with a solid electrolyte layer. A lanthanum strontium manganite (LSM) structure is deposited on the YSZ structure to form a composite cathode. The cathode includes a catalyst layer. The catalyst layer is a mesoporous nanoionic catalyst material integrated with the YSZ and LSM structures. Alternatively, or in addition to, the mesoporous nanoionic catalyst material may be coated onto the YSZ and LSM structures or embedded into the YSZ and LSM structures. The mesoporous nanoionic catalyst material may form an interconnected fibrous network.

摘要: A method of making a reversible hydrogen electrode comprises filling a housing with electrolyte, the housing having an open end, a closed end and a platinum wire having an internal portion in the housing and an external portion extending through the closed end to an exterior of the housing. The housing is inverted into a container of electrolyte and a counter electrode is placed into the container of electrolyte, the counter electrode being metal. A power source is attached to the external portion of the platinum wire and the counter electrode. The power source is run for a period of time to produce electrolysis. Hydrogen is formed at the internal portion of the platinum wire and oxygen is formed at the counter electrode. A single hydrogen bubble is formed in the housing, the platinum wire extending through the single hydrogen bubble.

摘要: A proton conduction fuel cell has an anode support made of metal having a fuel flow channel, an anode comprising an anode active material in contact with the anode support, a cathode support made of metal having a cathode gas flow channel, a cathode comprising a cathode active material in contact with the cathode support, and an electrolyte layer. The electrolyte layer comprises a first layer of electrolyte formed in a lock pattern on the anode and a second layer of the electrolyte formed in a key pattern on the cathode. The second layer fits in the lock pattern of the first layer to form the electrolyte layer.

摘要: Cathodes for lithium-sulfur batteries inhibit the parasitic polysulfide shuttle effect. The cathodes contain an active material support having a transition metal-containing nitrogen doped carbon developed to host the sulfur and suppress the diffusion of polysulfides into the electrolyte by retaining them in the high surface area nanostructured pores of the carbon while the transition metals serve as anchors for the soluble species due to the transition metals' affinity for sulfur. The cathodes 12 are gram scalable and have high surface area and high conductivity. The cathode active material support includes a nitrogen-containing polymer structure doped with a sulfide precursor of one or more transition metals selected from the group containing Fe, V, Mo, W, Co, Ni, Cu and Zn.
