Abstract: An improved antenna configuration for a communication device is provided that enables ultra wideband operation. The antenna may be formed of two sections, a primary section built into the communication device and a replaceable secondary section disposed on a data card. The primary section is common for all frequency bands of operation which the antenna is intended to cover. The replaceable secondary section is unique to predetermined frequency bands and provides tuning for the overall antenna. A data card tray antenna configuration is also provided which is suitable for a stand-alone antenna or as part of a sectional antenna.

Abstract: An assembly and method provides improved electromagnetic interference shielding, particularly where the assembly includes a shield with a shield opening. The shield opening may be provided to permit the escape of thermal energy from an electronic component on a substrate under the shield or to receive at least a part of a thermal pad, electronic component, or conductive chassis. The assembly includes a first conductive gasket disposed around the shield opening, and a second conductive gasket disposed radially outward from the first conductive gasket. The first conductive gasket and the second conductive gasket have one or more gasket characteristics including a respective first characteristic and second characteristic that are of the same type but have different values. The first characteristic and the second characteristic may be one or more of different attenuation frequency ranges, compression amounts, compressive forces, and dimensions.

Abstract: Methods for detecting faults in a siren-based alert system include receiving, by a siren device from a central siren controller, an activation command. The activation command identifies a neighbor siren device that is to be activated. Audible alerts output by the neighbor siren device include a unique identifying characteristic associated with the neighbor siren device. The method includes determining that the unique identifying characteristic is not detectable by the siren device and, in response, taking corrective action. The corrective action includes the siren device sending a siren fault notification to the central siren controller indicating a failure to detect the unique identifying characteristic and may also include modifying the audible alert output by the siren device to compensate for the faulty siren device. The siren device may send a siren fault notification to the central siren controller if an unexpected audible alert, such as a potential false alarm, is detected.

Abstract: Peak maximum current control for a wireless communication device. One example provides a radio including a radio frequency power amplifier (RFPA) and a current measuring circuit configured to sense a current provided to the RFPA. A comparator is connected to the current measuring circuit. The comparator is configured to compare a value indicative of the current provided to the RFPA to a threshold and provide an output indicative of the comparison. The radio includes a switching circuit configured to receive the output from the comparator and generate an amount of attenuation based on the output. A Cartesian feedback loop is configured to receive the amount of attenuation and control the output of the RFPA.
