    摘要: A method for separating carbon and iron bearing particles from zinc and lead bearing particles contained in an aqueous slurry of blast furnace dust and the recovery and reuse of the carbon and iron bearing particles as charge material in a blast furnace is described.An aqueous slurry of blast furnace flue dust is collected in a thickener. The thickened aqueous slurry is strained to remove large foreign matter and make a size separation at about 4 mm. The plus 4 mm particles are generally wasted. The aqueous slurry containing the minus 4 mm particles is fed into at least one hydrocyclone where a size separation is made at between about 3 and 5 microns. A substantial portion of the carbon and iron bearing particles report to the hydrocyclone underflow and a substantial portion of the zinc and lead bearing particles report to the hydrocyclone overflow. The carbon and iron bearing particles are passed to a preparation plant to be prepared for reuse in the blast furnace. The zinc and lead bearing particles may be passed to waste or stored for subsequent processing.Optionally, the water in the slurry may be treated with a neutralizing agent to precipitate dissolved zinc and lead values which can be removed from the water with the zinc and lead bearing particles in a hydrocyclone to thereby upgrade the water to acceptable environmental standards.

    摘要: The present invention is directed to a process for treating an oily mixture consisting of hydrocarbons, solid particles, and water. The steps of the process include placing the oily mixture into a reactor chamber, purging the reactor chamber with an inert gas, and creating a steam bath within the inert gas filled reactor chamber, the steam surge freeing hydrocarbon matter from the solid particles. The process further includes elevating reactor chamber temperature to a boiling point temperature corresponding to the hydrocarbons in the oily mixture, the elevated temperature vaporizing the hydrocarbons are vaporized within inert atmosphere. The reaction chamber is vented and the off-gas is processed into a hydrocarbon product while the de-oiled solid particles are discharged from the reaction chamber as a raw material or for disposal.

    摘要: A method is provided for improving the filtration rate of nonhazardous wastewater streams generated at a steel plant. The solids are concentrated in the wastewater stream. No more than about 5% by weight of lime is added to the concentrated wastewater stream which is then dewatered. A friable filter cake is produced by allowing the solids to harden. The lime addition results in a significant increase in the rate at which the stream may be filtered.

    摘要: A method is provided for improving the efficiency of a basic oxygen furnace operation and/or regulating its rate of molten iron consumption to accommodate interruptions in downstream production. The method comprises the steps of combining a wet scrubber sludge with hot slag to provide a slag/sludge mixture, commencing a steelmaking operation of the basic oxygen furnace (BOF), and introducing the slag/sludge mixture into the BOF during the steelmaking operation so that the BOF produces a desired quantity and quality of steel in a manner that is more efficient than without the slag/sludge mixture. Also provided is a system for improving the efficiency of a BOF operation. The system comprises a mixer and an introduction mechanism. The mixer is connected to a source of wet scrubber sludge and a source of hot slag. The mixer is adapted to combine the wet scrubber sludge with the hot slag to provide a slag/sludge mixture. The introduction mechanism is adapted to transport the slag/sludge mixture from the mixer to a BOF and is adapted to introduce the slag/sludge mixture into the BOF during a steelmaking operation of the BOF. The mixer and introduction mechanism are operable in conjunction with the BOF so that the BOF produces a desired quantity and quality of steel in a manner that is more efficient than without the slag/sludge mixture. Improvements in efficiency include reduced heat cycle times, reduced oxygen blow times, reduced demand for raw materials outside of the slag/sludge mixture, reduced disposal and transportation costs, and increased productivity.

    摘要: The invention is directed to a process for dehydrating and recycling back into a BOF converter wet BOF scrubber sludge to produce a steelmaking revert having an improved flow rate when handled in a recycle stream. Wet sludge is combined with hot BOF slag to provide a slag/sludge mixture. The wet sludge causes the mixture to have a moisture content greater than 10% water by weight, and the hot slag, having a temperature below the molten liquid state, vaporizes the water in the mixture and reduces the moisture content to about 4% water by weight or less. The dehydrated mixture has improved flow rate properties when it is recycled as a steelmaking revert.

    摘要: The present invention provides an improved distributor including a conduit having an inlet end to receive incoming slurry and an outlet end to feed slurry onto a treatment apparatus such as a filter. A plurality of spaced apart diverter rows are arranged within the conduit between the inlet and outlet ends including a first diverter row comprising one adjustable diverter that is selectively adjustable to divide incoming slurry into either two slurry streams or into three slurry streams. A last diverter row is provided adjacent the outlet end, and the last row includes a plurality of spaced apart non-adjustable diverters make a last division of the slurry before it is discharged onto the filter. At least one intermediate diverter row is provided between the first and last diverter rows, and the intermediate diverter row may include either spaced apart adjustable diverters that can be selectively adjusted to subdivide slurry streams into either two or three additional slurry streams, spaced apart non-adjustable diverters that subdivide slurry streams into two additional slurry streams, or a combination of both adjustable and non-adjustable spaced apart diverters.
