Abstract: A process for preparing whitened fly ash includes the steps of: (a) subjecting fly ash to a size classification step to obtain size classified fly ash having a particle size such that at least 90 wt % has a particle size of from 44 μm to 250 μm; (b) optionally, contacting the size classified fly ash from step (a) with water to form a slurry, wherein the slurry has a solid content of less than 40 wt %; (c) subjecting the slurry obtained in step (b) to an exhaustive magnetic separation step to form magnetically treated fly ash, wherein the exhaustive magnetic separation step includes a first magnetic extraction step and a second magnetic extraction step, wherein the second magnetic extraction step is carried out at a higher magnetic field strength than the first magnetic extraction step; and (d) subjecting the magnetically treated fly ash obtained in step (c) to milling to form whitened fly ash.

Abstract: Described here is a method for recovering stainless steel from stainless steel slag, wherein the method comprises providing stainless steel slag, subjecting the stainless steel slag to dry milling followed by classifying the milled stainless steel slag to at least two fractions based on particle size characterised as small and middle fraction based on the particle size. The small and middle fractions are individually subjected to magnetic separation to separate a magnetic fraction from a non-magnetic fraction. The magnetic fractions are subjected to further separation to obtain particles with concentrated amount of stainless steel, which are subsequently recovered.

Abstract: The invention relates to a device for continuously sorting a particulate stream, comprising: a) a screw conveyor (1) for conveying the particulate stream to a separation device, b) a sieve (7) for separating the particulate stream ac cording to size, characterized in that it further comprises c) a pre-sieve (3) comprising elongated sieve openings formed by fingers extending towards an end portion of the pre-sieve with the tips of the fingers not being connected in that end portion, the pre-sieve (3) being located between the conveyor outlet and the sieve, d) wherein the pre-sieve (3) encloses part of the circumference of the conveyor screw in an axial end portion of the conveyor screw, and e) the radial distance between the conveyor screw (1) and the pre-sieve (3) is less than 10%, preferably less than 5% of the conveyor screw diameter. The pre-sieve allows to separate elongated objects like threads or wires from the particulate stream which would otherwise clog or block subsequent separation devices including the sieve.

Abstract: This invention refers to a technically and economically viable process for recovery of relevant metallic and non-metallic contents from mining residues, particularly the bauxite residue, using it in its integral form. Such a process route uses energy from microwaves, assisted leaching and logic sequencing of steps that allow a technically and economically viable removal of components from the bauxite residue, particularly the residue from the Bayer process. The invention also refers to a microwave reactor that is appropriate for performing the above-mentioned process, as well as to a method for heating a mining product.

Abstract: A disclosed system and method are configured to process waste via a frontend processing module configured to crush, grind, aggregate and concentrate waste from a coarse material to a finer material including an iterative reprocessing of any oversized components. The disclosed system also includes a classifying module to separate the coarse material from the finer material via a process water and at least one microgrinder and fractioning centrifuge. The disclosed system further comprises a backend processing module configured for further classifying the respective coarse and fine material for energy production and dewatering, recovering and combusting component materials. System submodules are configured to microgrind and gasify or pyrolize a resulting particle slurry into a combustible synthetic gas release for electricity generation and heat. The system is applied to waste recovery of waste glass, electronics waste, coal piles, coal water fuels, biofuels, algae lipid oils, and various precious minerals.
