    Abstract: An example system includes a housing configured to house a portion of an electric machine and a heat transfer material, the heat transfer material is configured to contact a conductor of the portion of the electric machine and to remove heat from the conductor and transfer heat to the housing. The system includes a coolant configured to remove heat from the housing. An inner surface of the housing comprises a plurality of structures configured to increase an inner surface area of the housing, wherein the plurality of structures are configured to contact the heat transfer material.

    Abstract: A rotary mechanical system includes an electric machine, such as an electric motor, and a housing at least partially housing one or more components of the electric machine. The housing defines an electrical cavity and a coolant cavity. The electrical cavity houses one or more electrical components, such as a stator, of the electric machine. The coolant cavity is configured to receive a liquid coolant, such as ethylene glycol and water, from a liquid coolant system. The housing is configured to seal a two-phase refrigerant within the electrical cavity to transfer heat from the one or more electrical components to a wall of the electrical cavity and from the wall of the electrical cavity to the liquid coolant.

    Abstract: A hybrid emergency power unit for an aircraft comprises a controller, a generator-motor coupled to the controller, a hydraulic pump coupled to the generator-motor, a battery pack coupled to the controller, and a turbine coupled to the generator-motor. During a bleed air mode, the turbine and the generator-motor supply electricity to the controller, which is configured to rectify an output of the generator-motor for consumption by one or more electrical systems on the aircraft. During an augment mode, when bleed air provides insufficient power, the controller is configured to draw at least some power from the battery pack and convert the output of the generator-motor for consumption by the one or more electrical systems. During an emergency mode, the controller is configured to draw electricity from the battery pack and provide power to drive the generator-motor, which in turn drives the hydraulic pump and provides electrical power to aircraft systems.

    Abstract: A scroll compressor includes a fixed scroll; an orbiting scroll that interfaces the fixed scroll; an Oldham ring that interfaces the orbiting scroll and has a pre-unbalanced force profile; and a motor shaft that interfaces the Oldham ring. The Oldham ring pre-unbalanced force profile is in the form of a sine wave. One of the shaft and the orbiting scroll has an imbalance weight portion; wherein the imbalance weight portion provides a weighted force profile that is 180° opposite of the pre-unbalanced force profile of the Oldham ring and produces in the Oldham ring a post-unbalanced force profile that is substantially a flat line.
