Abstract:
An apparatus for tensioning spring arms used in conjunction with a weight distribution hitch. The apparatus may comprise a mechanical linkage that may be operable to multiply an input force provided by a jack to an output force of sufficient magnitude to tension the spring arms. The mechanical linkage may comprise a pair of rigid arms that are linked to a support post of a trailer jack. The pair of rigid arms may automatically be raised in conjunction with the support post being operated from a lowered position to a raised position. The rigid arms may exert a force on a cross-piece member extending between the spring arms. Alternatively, the mechanical linkage may comprise a flexible member for placing the spring arms under tension.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an improved safety device for elevator or lift maintenance and service. The safety device of the present invention can be used in any vertical transportation shaft to provide protection to individuals in the pit of an elevator. The safety device consists of a shoring means which is connected to the vertical side surface of the vertical transportation shaft via mounting means, which allow the shoring means to be moved from a retracted position, wherein the shoring means is disposed in the vicinity of the vertical side surface, to a deployed position, wherein the shoring means is disposed vertically and spaced from the side vertical surface. In the deployed position, the shoring means provides a physical barrier between the elevator car and the floor of the vertical transportation shaft, thus preventing potential injury to the serviceperson working in the pit.
Abstract:
A wood boring bit for boring holes in wood and other similar work surfaces having a central longitudinal axis, a main body, a pilot screw tip and a partial flute with a cutting edge and a cutting spur. The flute portion may be defined by a partial helical section having a distal end joined to the main body and a lead edge disposed toward said screw tip. The distal end and the lead edge preferably do not overlap along the central axis and are equal to or less than 360° from one another around the axis. The partial flute provides improved waste removal and allows the user to access the cutting edge of the flute for maintenance purposes.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a tire chain designed to retain the strength characteristics of a prior tire chain but reducing the dimension of the tire chain components to be located at the inner wall of the tire so as to reduce the likelihood of interfering engagement with components that are closely positioned relative to the tire.
Abstract:
A method for correcting response of a seismic sensor includes determining a response of the seismic sensor to a test signal. A response of a reference sensor to the test signal is also determined. The response of the seismic sensor to the test signal is adjusted to substantially match the response of the reference sensor to the test signal.
Abstract:
An omnibus process of pulping and bleaching lignocellulosic materials in which a charge of a lignocellulosic material is biopulped and/or water extracted prior to pulping and bleaching. The lignocellulosic material may be mechanically pulped and bleached in the presence of an enzyme that breaks lignin-carbohydrate complexes. The aqueous extract in embodiments including a water extract step is separated into acetic acid and hemicellulose sugar aqueous solutions.
Abstract:
A load stabilizer having telescoping inner and outer tube components with the inner tube threaded and receiving an adjuster are provided. The adjuster may abut the outer tube end for forced extension by turning of the adjuster. Compressible feet may be coupled to the opposed ends and be forced against opposed walls of a load receiving container for retaining a load. Such compression can produce binding of the interengaging threads and with release of such compression, the adjuster can freely turns for rapid adjustment along the threading of the inner tube.
Abstract:
A retractable support crank is provided that includes a first handle piece adapted to be connected to a driving rod, and a second handle piece rotationally coupled to the first handle piece. The second handle piece being adapted to rotate from a high-speed position to a high leverage position by manipulating a releasable locking mechanism coupled to the first and second handle positions.
Abstract:
A tool for binding and securing the binding of a load, said binding including a tube having left and right hand threads at opposed ends and sides and threaded shafts mated to the threads whereby turning of the tube relative to the shafts produces common insertion or extension of the shafts relative to the tube. A gear secured to the tube and a pivotal housing with handle surrounding the gear. A pawl carried by the housing and moveable into and out of engagement with the gear in either rotative direction whereby handle movement either contracts or extends the shafts simultaneously from the tube. A centered position of the pawl and a detent in said pawl engaged by a spring biased pinion that retains the pawl as desired out of engagement with the gear for free turning of the tube. The handle may be pivoted to a parallel position with the tube for convenient storage and safety, and a lock may be applied to lock the pawl in a position for contracting the shafts to prevent inadvertent release from the load binding condition.
Abstract:
A Positive Temperature Coefficient Resistivity (PTC) element has a resistivity that increases as the temperature increases. Circuit breakers having PTC elements can achieve better overload and short circuit protection than existing products. Breakers with PTC elements can also be combined with ground fault detection circuits to activate the circuit breaker under ground fault conditions that are less severe than the overcurrent conditions that would normally activate the circuit breaker. A shunt trip assembly incorporating a PTC resistor reduces the required power rating of the clearing switch.
