Various embodiments include a conversation engine for facilitating a conversation between member accounts (e.g., personal accounts) and social network entities (e.g., corporate accounts) in a social networking system. The conversation engine can enable interactions between a member account and a social network entity via a messaging application when an end-user device associated with the member account is in proximity to a physical establishment associated with the social network entity. The end-user device can scan for available access points and determine its location based on the wireless source identifier(s) of the available access points. The end-user device and/or the social networking system can compare the wireless source identifier(s) to a set of known wireless source identifiers to determine the end-user device's location. Messages can be generated by the conversation engine that include content that is generated based at least in part on the location of the end-user device.

The present disclosure is directed toward systems and methods for reengaging website visitors via a social networking system. For example, in accordance with one embodiment, a social networking system receives information regarding a user-triggered event associated with a merchant webpage, utilizes the received information to generate an electronic message from the merchant to the user, and provides the electronic message to the user via the social networking system. The user can then reengage with the merchant in response to the received electronic message.

A system determines a set of users satisfying a given criteria based on attribute values of the users. The system associates each value of an attribute with a representation of users having that attribute value. The representation of users may be an enumeration of users or a bit index. The system receives a request for determining a set of users satisfying a given criterion. The system identifies a logical operation based on the criterion and performs the logical operation to determine the set of users. The representation of the set of users may be distributed across a plurality of processors, allowing the system to perform the logical operation in parallel. The system may further determine statistical information describing a characteristic of the set of users, for example, page likes by the set of users. The statistical information may be presented to a business for analyzing their target audience.

Techniques for a messaging agent platform are described. In one embodiment, an apparatus may comprise a intermediary server operative to send a page-scoped identifier to a front-end application, the front-end application associated with an entity, the page-scoped identifier identifying a user account with a messaging system in relation to a representation for the entity within the messaging system; receive a user information request from a contact application at the intermediary server, the contact application associated with the representation for the entity within the messaging system, the user information request for the page-scoped identifier; determine a user access consent setting for the page-scoped identifier for the user account; and send a user information data package to the contact application in response to the user information request when the user access consent setting for the page-scoped identifier indicates user consent. A social networking system receives a selection of user characteristics defining a benchmark audience and a target audience, and generates audience metrics that compare the audiences across a set of user characteristics. These user characteristics include demographics, interests, purchasing activity, and actions on the social networking system. The audience metrics are provided to an advertiser who may select additional user characteristics to refine the benchmark or target audiences. The audience metrics may include an affinity score that compares the audience metrics for a particular type of interaction, and may normalize the frequency of interactions relative to interactions of the audience as a whole. Advertisers may use the defined audiences to establish targeting criteria for an advertisement, and may use existing targeting criteria to seed the selection of an audience.
