Provided is a liquid crystal composition capable of forming an optically anisotropic layer, and method thereof, in which a variation in a twisted angle of liquid crystal compound in an in-plane direction is suppressed an optical film, and a circularly polarizing plate for an organic EL display. The liquid crystal composition contains a liquid crystal, optically active compound A which is a photosensitive optically active compound whose helical twisting power changes upon irradiation with light and has a molar absorption coefficient of 5,000 M−1·cm−1 or more with respect to light having a wavelength of 365 nm, and an optically active compound B having a molar absorption coefficient with respect to light having a wavelength of 365 nm smaller than the molar absorption coefficient of the optically active compound A, in which a mass content ratio of the optically active compound A to the liquid crystal compound is less than 0.01.

The present invention provides an optical laminate in which cissing occurring when an optically anisotropic layer is formed and film thickness unevenness are suppressed, and a polarizing plate and an organic EL display device using the same. The optical laminate includes an optically anisotropic layer A, and an optically anisotropic layer B, where layer A and layer B come into direct contact, either or both of layer A and layer B are formed of a composition containing a liquid crystal compound, surface energy A of a surface of layer A on a side in contact with layer B is 30 to 40 mN/m, surface energy B1 of a surface of layer B on a side in contact with layer A is 35 mN/m or more, and surface energy B2 of a surface of layer B opposite to the side in contact with layer A is 25 mN/m or less.

An object of present invention is to provide an optical laminate that can be used for a reflective circular polarizer with little occurrence of a ghost in a case of being used in a virtual reality display device, an electronic finder, or the like; a laminated optical film including the reflective circular polarizer; an optical article including the optical laminate; and a virtual reality display device including the optical article. The optical laminate of the present invention includes two or more laminated reflective layers, in which the laminated reflective layer includes one reflective layer A that includes at least one or more cholesteric liquid crystal layers formed of a first liquid crystal compound which substantially consists of a rod-like liquid crystal compound and that does not include a cholesteric liquid crystal layer formed of a second liquid crystal compound which substantially consists of a disk-like liquid crystal compound, and one reflective layer B that includes at least one or more cholesteric liquid crystal layers formed of the second liquid crystal compound which substantially consists of a disk-like liquid crystal compound and that does not include a cholesteric liquid crystal layer formed of the first liquid crystal compound which substantially consists of a rod-like liquid crystal compound, and predetermined requirements are satisfied.

Provided are an optical film, a circularly polarizing plate, and an image display apparatus in each of which the occurrence of cracks is suppressed in the obtained film in a case of being punched. The optical film includes a stretched resin film and a liquid crystal layer formed by fixing a liquid crystal compound twist-aligned along a helical axis extending along a direction in thickness, in which a δa value calculated using a three-dimensional solubility parameter of a resin in the stretched resin film is 8.0 MPa1/2 or less, the liquid crystal layer contains a cured substance of a polyfunctional compound having two or more polymerizable groups in one molecule, and an absolute value of a difference between the δa value calculated using the three-dimensional solubility parameter of the polyfunctional compound and the δa value calculated using the three-dimensional solubility parameter of the resin is 4.0 MPa1/2 or less.

The present invention provides a circularly polarizing plate that makes it possible to realize a bendable display device having reduced reflectivity and reflective tint and has excellent bending resistance, and a display device including a circularly polarizing plate. The circularly polarizing plate of the present invention is a circularly polarizing plate used for a bendable display device and includes a polarizer, and a phase difference film that is arranged on one side of the polarizer. The phase difference film includes a λ/2 plate and a λ/4 plate, the λ/2 plate and the λ/4 plate each include a liquid crystal compound, and a slow axis direction of the phase difference film is adjusted to define an angle of 75 to 105 degrees with respect to a bending direction of the display device.

Provided is a method for producing an optically anisotropic layer, with a polarizer, which has a plurality of regions in which alignment states of a liquid crystal compound are fixed and different from one another; laminate, with a polarizer; and a composition. The method includes: 1) forming a composition layer containing a chiral agent containing at least a photosensitive chiral agent and a polymerizable liquid crystal compound on a substrate, 2) subjecting the composition layer to a heat treatment, 3) subjecting the composition layer to light irradiation under oxygen concentration of 1% by volume or more, after step 2), and 4) subjecting the composition layer to a curing treatment to form an optically anisotropic layer, and 5) carrying out step 3) under heating conditions, or subjecting the composition layer to a heat treatment between step 3) and step 4), with a predetermined amount of chiral agent.

Provided is an optical film with a resin substrate adhered to an optically anisotropic layer and suppression of occurrence of optical defects in the optically anisotropic layer. The optical film has a resin substrate having an alignment regulating force and an optically anisotropic layer arranged thereon, in which the optically anisotropic layer contains a liquid crystal compound and a compound having a heteroatom different from the liquid crystal compound, and in a case where a surface of the optical film on an optically anisotropic layer side thereof is a first surface and a surface of the optical film on a resin substrate side thereof is a second surface, and components of the optical film in a depth direction are analyzed by time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry while irradiating the optical film with an ion beam from the first surface toward the second surface, the obtained profile satisfies a predetermined requirement.
