Abstract: The present invention discloses a ferroelectric helical liquid crystal material and a method for realizing second harmonic enhancement therefor. By means of the method, a ferroelectric helical liquid crystal with an ultrahigh polarity helical structure is obtained by doping chiral molecules with ferroelectric nematic phase liquid crystals, and a dielectric constant of the ferroelectric helical liquid crystal is 104. This type of liquid crystal material has a superstrong nonlinear optical effect and can excite high-intensity second harmonic waves (for example, a nonlinear coefficient of the liquid crystal material is equivalent to that of a LiNbO3 nonlinear (NLO) crystalline material). Based on adjustability of a periodical helical structure of the ferroelectric helical liquid crystal, a molecular pitch of the ferroelectric helical liquid crystal is tuned by means of a concentration of chiral molecules (i.e., a polarization period is regulated).

Abstract: A chiral azobenzene dopant with helical twisting power has a structure represented by the following formula (I): wherein Z and Z′ are independently selected from the group consisting of naphthalene and phenanthrene; when Z or Z′ is naphthalene, the naphthalene optionally has R3 at the 6 position and R4 at the 6′ position; when Z or Z′ is phenanthrene, the phenanthrene optionally has R3 at the 7 position and R4 at the 7′ position; R1, R2, R3, and R4 are independently selected from the group consisting of an alkyl group having 1 to 20 carbons, an alkoxy group having 1 to 20 carbons, an aryl group having 6 to 20 carbons, and an aryloxy group having 6 to 20 carbons; and on any R1, R2, R3, and R4, on any CH2 a CH3 is optionally attached by replacing a hydrogen on a CH2.

Abstract: A patterned linear polarizer layer is obtained by shear coating a polymeric lyotropic liquid crystal solution on a coatable substrate, drying and treating the resulting polymer layer with a doping-passivation solution containing the dopant and multi-valent cations, where the patterned structure is obtained using various methods like restricting the doping process to certain areas of the polymer layer or discoloring the doping agent in certain areas of the linear polarizer or by selective removal of parts of the linear polarizer layer and others. The thickness of the dry linear polarizer coating layer is 2.0 micrometer or less.

The cross-linkable cholesteric liquid crystal material has Bragg diffraction characteristic after cross-linking, and blue light with a wavelength between 400 nm and 480 nm may be reflected by the cross-linked cholesteric liquid crystal material and transmitted through the cross-linked cholesteric liquid crystal material at the same time.
