    Abstract: A video-based monitoring and image post-processing system may include a plenoptic camera that has multiple mirrors in its field of view. The plenoptic camera may capture four-dimensional light-field information for multiple images of its field of view and may embed that information in image data sent to a local or backend server for post-processing. An image processing application on the server may extract image data for pixels that collectively represent one of the mirrors, and apply a focusing operation on the extracted image data to generate a video stream of a virtual camera represented by the mirror, dependent on the image information and the distance between the mirror and the camera. The application may correct distortions due to the curvature of the mirror. The system may provide video monitoring in areas without a single line of sight without the need for a large number of expensive cameras.

    Abstract: Techniques are described for providing fault tolerance for wireless communications in a wireless network (e.g., wireless local area network (LAN)). A client establishes a first connection with a first access point (AP) of multiple APs via first radio of the client and a second connection with a second AP of the multiple APs via a second radio of the client. The first AP and the second AP are connected to the same wireless LAN. Data associated with a communication session is communicated via the first and second connections. In response to detecting that the second connection satisfies one or more criteria, a third connection is established with a third AP of the multiple APs via the second radio of the client.

    Abstract: A video-based monitoring system may dynamically adjust the resolution or frame rate of video cameras in a materials handling facility in response to changing conditions or events. The resolution or frame rate may be increased when an agent authorized to handle high-value items (e.g., expensive items or those at high risk of being stolen) enters the field of view of a given camera in the facility. The system (or a video camera thereof) may detect the presence of the authorized agent by detecting that his clothing or equipment includes a color or pattern designating such authorization using analytics applied to a video stream captured by the camera. Other pre-defined conditions or events indicating that higher-resolution video monitoring is warranted may trigger an increase in the resolution or frame rate of a camera. The resolution or frame rate may be decreased when these conditions or events no longer apply.
